Waterfront Treasure - Main WIE House
Blackbeard's Treasure might not be here, but you will make treasured memories! The WIE Village is unique in many ways...made from mostly local OBX re-purposed materials, combined with charm, accommodate 2 to 10 people. Two pods & main house borders 1600 acres of nature preserve within 2 mi of the beach. To accommodate larger parties, reserve Pod Messi &/or Pod Zeus in addition to Main House. These listings can be found under my profile! Search "WIE House, Virginian-Pilot" for more information! The space This space adopted a Giant Tortoise - Travel with Purpose when you stay with us and assist in global efforts to help save this beautiful endangered species! This 1200 square feet home is a combination of mostly re-purposed wood from several houses, that have been torn down to make room for bigger beach houses. It has a fantastic beachy feel to it, and though it has a small footprint the feeling is spacious. Includes a fireplace to take the chill off. The WIE House is SO very unique it made it into the 2016 OBX Parade of Homes...learn more about the amenities and layouts by Googling "Parade of Homes OBX 2016" and go to House #11 ! Look forward to having you to one of the most unique properties you will ever stay in!!!! Guest access You will have the whole main house to yourself and your guests, including GOURMET Kitchen with a drip-style coffee maker! You will also have access to the sound (weather permitting) and a tandem kayak. (The kayak is available on a first-come first-serve basis as it can be used by any guests staying at the WIE Village.) Other things to note This is a beautiful waterfront location, and it may change your attitude for ever. Below is the story behind the WIE Village ! With green building in mind, we look to reuse and re-purpose materials that are left over from building large homes to create The WIE House. The first WIE House location is in an environmentally critical area, The Outer Banks (OBX) of North Carolina.
This concept is not unique to the OBX, as we would like to see it grow to any location where there are leftover materials on the job-site. Whether it be a remodel job or new construction, the benefits to this project are the use of leftover building materials, resulting in less forest destruction, filling of landfills, all while cutting expenses for all involved!
The WIE House is small in physical size, but big in quality of living. The WIE House is built to be as maintenance-free, and as energy-efficient as possible; including environmentally friendly items such as, metal roofs, rain water wine barrels to water landscaping, passive solar energy to maintain all exterior lighting, and all permeable walkways to prevent runoff to name a few!
A walkway will wind you up to the house that sits atop a hill and because lot clearing is kept to a minimum no driving of vehicles allowed on the lot.
Another goal of The WIE House concept is for local municipalities to get on board and see the value of higher density houses on property as opposed to the single Mega-Home!
The first WIE House was built on a lot owned by Jim Douglas on the Roanoke Sound, bordering the Kitty Hawk Maritime Forest became available for rent during Spring 2017.

We stayed with a couple of friends and it was a great getaway. Off the the beaten path but close enough to all that OBX has to offer. The house was very clean and well maintained. The view of the sound was great as well.

We absolutely loved everything about our stay! Gia was an amazing communicator and made everything in regards to our stay simple, from check in to check out. The house was a beautiful, eclectic home. It was very obvious that great care had gone into decorating this unique home and it was spotlessly clean! We enjoyed having our coffee on the top deck each morning and watching the sunset over the water each evening.

I can’t say enough about how great this was. Gia was so helpful, friendly, professional and just an all-around nice person with whom to deal. The property itself was amazing… I will be posting pictures of the most amazing sunsets. The home was beautifully decorated and yet homey and comfortable. I highly recommend this property, and Gia herself. Thank you for a fabulous and much-needed vacation.

Very clean and comfortable, with decor more interesting than kitsch for a change. Kitchen is the best setup for cooking that we've seen a quite a long time of many rentals - a professional-level gas stove, and fully equipped with pots/pans/cutting boards/etc. Carawan's Seafood is but a couple of minutes away, terrific. Beds firm. There is some traffic noise outside from the bridge - distant, but unimpeded since across the water - otherwise, things are pretty much perfect. We saw river otter, deer, lots of ospreys from the house; and the beach and multiple maritime forest hikes are close by since you're in between Nags Head and Duck/Corolla.

This property fit our needs for a 5-day 4 night stay. Its location makes it perfect for accessing the outer bank while traveling to the mainland. My husband, 7-year-old daughter, and I fit nicely into the space of the home. While there between my husband's work visits we were able to visit lighthouses, drive the beach to the Virginia State Line, and enjoy Festival Park in Manteo. My daughter enjoyed playing in the backyard and experiencing the marsh. There is also a great hiking trail just down the road, Kitty Woods Trail that you should take advantage of. I would recommend this property.

Water dripping from AC onto couch, water running at downstairs toilet and ceiling fan downstairs doesn't work

Our family thoroughly enjoyed our stay. The property is at the end of a quiet street, isolated from neighbors, right along the sound. There are 2 pod houses on the property that share the front sidewalk, but otherwise we had no idea anyone else was there. The thoughtful positioning of the windows and decks gave us plenty of privacy. We had our own deck, grill & gas firepit.
Gia was an amazing host and was available via text for any questions. She offered great recommendations for local businesses. She texted when the house was ready; we were able to check-in early. Everything was exactly as pictured. The kitchen had everything that we needed - we did A LOT of cooking! Beds were super comfy. Showers were enormous! We had a lovely stay; it was truly our own getaway from reality, with all the comforts of home. Peaceful, serene, & quiet… so perfect! The view of the sound out the back is amazing… beautiful sunsets. Our teenage daughters enjoyed use of the provided kayaks to explore the sound (we brought our own life jackets).
There's a very friendly raccoon that visited us each evening,😊 Seems to have a longing for sweet corn. He's very courteous, but ok, we might have given in to his cuteness!
If I could offer any advice to future guests: bring some bottled drinking water for your stay. The well water has a strong sulfur taste and smell. It’s fine for cooking/bathing, but we preferred to get bottled water to drink.
Thanks Gia!!!

We had an awesome stay in the WIE house. The property feels secluded, yet it’s only minutes away from restaurants and shopping. The front side of the home gives you a “cabin in the woods” vibe while the backside of the home has a wonderful view of the sound. We enjoyed the sunsets each evening. Check in/check out was seamless and the host was very prompt with responding to communication. I would definitely stay here again!

Location was quiet and tucked away from the busy parts of the Outer Banks but just a short 3 minute drive to get into the the shops and restaurants.
House was clean with updated styling, comfortable furniture and beds, very well appointed overall. Outdoor spaces were well thought out, comfortable and we loved the single sitting hammock. Great place to relax and unwind, enjoy as a family or 2 couples.
There are 2 smaller single bedroom VRBO units on either side of the house with connecting decks, so this could feel less private then you might expect, but could also offer an opportunity for a bigger group (4 couples) or to just meet great new people!
Host is very responsive and helpful, she made the stay more enjoyable
You won’t regret staying here!

This property was the perfect setting for our "mini-moon" weekend immediately following our wedding. The house itself is decorated impeccably and boasts top of the line appliances. There are also beautiful views of the sound. Gia responded quickly to all questions and was a wonderful host.
