Charming, Cosy Cottage. Family and dog Friendly

Riverside Cottage with kitchen and fireplace
This is a delightful, charming barn conversion. Both spacious, yet cosy.
There is private parking at the front of the front of The Cottage for up to 3 cars.

Ideal for couples or families. Dog friendly.

The Cottage accommodates 4 people comfortably with two bedrooms and there is a double sofa bed in the living room should you need extra sleeping space. Dogs are considered part of the family and are very much welcome, but we must know their names :).

The living room boasts a log burning fire, some logs will be provided and you can purchase some more from the village. The rear of the cottage looks out over the private, enclosed, terraced garden that is accessed by the back door.

The dining area seats 6 and looks out over the rear garden.

There is a well equipped kitchen and a downstairs cloakroom/toilet. Upstairs is the master bedroom with a double bed and a smaller bedroom with twin beds. There is a family bathroom with a shower and bath.

We have indicated this cottage as not suitable for 0-2 years, this is due to there being no stair gates and there is no extra guard to the fire (other than its door). Your infants are welcome as long as you understand this risk. A travel cot can be provided if required and a high chair on request. Small person cutlery is provided in the kitchen.

Treat yourself to a digital detox as there is no Wi-Fi here at The Cottage. The phone signal is good and you can get 4G in some parts of the house if you need a fix. Wi-Fi is available at some coffee shops in Kirkby Stephen.

Hartley has an abundance of red squirrels, pheasants and small birds that are often found passing through the back garden of the cottage. Look out for the parrots!

Kirkby Stephen is a traditional market town of historic buildings, cobbled yards, quaint corners and interesting shops.
It is on the famous Settle to Carlisle railway line. There is a heritage/information centre, café's, pubs, eateries, bakery and a superb Indian restaurant!

Attracts both walkers and cyclists alike. Situated on the Wainwright’s coast to coast path with walks from the cottage ranging from quiet riverside walks and walks along the railway lines to fells including Eden viaducts footpath, the Poetry trail, Howgills and Dales, Hartley fell and the Nine Standards, Smardalegill Viaduct and Great Asby Scar.
For cyclists, Kirkby Stephen is on the W2W (Walney to Wear) coast to coast route and the Lakes and Dales Loop nearby. There is electric bike hire in Hartley and a bike shop/bike repair in Kirkby Stephen.

For those that are looking for heritage and culture, there are the castles at Brough and Pendragon and there are nearby villages of Winton, Nateby, Soulby, Ravenstonedale and Newbiggin-on-Lune - some within walking distance.
Guest accommodation at this cottage offers fireplaces and an iron/ironing board. Kitchens offer fridges, hobs, microwaves and kitchenware and utensils. Bathrooms include a combined bath/shower unit.
The recreational activities listed below are available either on-site or nearby; fees may apply.

4/5 Good

Cosy cottage
Lovely cosy cottage in fab location, everything we needed was available, only downside was shower not great and very creaky floorboards upstairs, I appreciate this is an old cottage but the boards were particularly noisy. Otherwise we had a lovely stay and would recommend.

5/5 Excellent

Lovely stay
Really enjoyed it at the cottage. Location and facilities were fab. The surrounding area is really nice. Close to kirby Stephen village. Will definitely stay again

5/5 Excellent

Just perfect!
Lovely cottage in an amazing position! Perfect option for a quiet break. also allows for easy access to the lake district, yorkshire dales as well as pennines and (if you are up for a good drive) the scottish border. finally, Hartley is a little gem and it comes with a old rail viaduct which in itself is worth the visit. recommended!!

5/5 Excellent

Lovely cottage and location. The wildlife in the back garden, the walks and only a 10 min stroll into kirkby Stephen

5/5 Excellent

A wonderful stay
A lovely cottage, catering for all you need whilst away. Everything was clean and there were even some gifts left for us; eggs, milk, hand sanitizer, wipes, some dog biscuits, seeds for the birds and nuts for the red squirrel. Highly recommended.
