It is only a 2 minute drive from the pretty waterside town of Kingsbridge with its many shops, pubs and restaurants and just a 5 minute drive from fashionable Salcombe with its fabulous golden beaches. For the slightly more adventurous both Salcombe/East Portlemouth and Kingsbridge can be accessed by boat or kayak from the front of the cottage! In addition, the cottage is really well positioned in the South Hams to access, not only the beaches of Salcombe, but many more favourites such as Bantham, Bigbury, Thurlestone, South Milton all approximately a 10 minute drive from the cottage door. Historic Dartmouth is just a short drive in the opposite direction along what must be one of the most spectacular coastal routes in the country, with many more fabulous beaches en route, including, Beesands, Slapton and the award winning Blackpool Sands. However if you do not want to venture far from the cottage there are enough things to do around the property to keep adults and children happy for days: Relax on the loungers on the sun drenched terrace; Sit on the Jetty with a coffee or a glass of wine watching the kids play in the creek and if you're lucky spot the resident Kingfishers fishing as the tide slowly comes in bringing with it our friendly pair of swans. At low tide it is possible to walk a fair distance along the creek on the shingle bed (avoid the mud) and see the clam beds and a huge variety of birdlife feeding on small crabs and shellfish. Finally, a rowing boat (4.4 meters) and two kayaks are available on request; great for pottering around on the creek at high tide. Please note that because of the steps leading up to the property our cottage may not be suitable for those with mobility issues. ## Property amenities ### Beach - Beach nearby ### Internet - Available in the cottage: WiFi ### Parking and transport - Car required - Parking on site ### Kitchen - Coffee/tea maker - Cookware, dishware, and utensils - Dishwasher - Hob - Microwave - Oven - Refrigerator - Spices - Toaster ### Bedrooms - 3 bedrooms - Bedsheets provided ### Bathroom - 2 bathrooms - Bathtub - Hair dryer - Shower - Towels provided ### Living spaces - Fireplace - Living room - Separate dining area - Wood stove ### Entertainment - Books - DVD player - Games - TV with cable/satellite channels - Video library ### Outdoor areas - Barbecue grill - Garden - Outdoor furniture - Patio ### Laundry - Laundry facilities - Washing machine ### Comfort - Heating ### Pets - No pets allowed ### Suitability/Accessibility - Cobblestone flooring in public areas - Hardwood flooring in public areas - No lift - Smooth flooring in public areas - Thin carpet in public areas - Smoke-free property ### Services and conveniences - Iron/ironing board ### Location highlights - In a rural location - Near a hospital - Near the marina - Near the sea - On the waterfront ### Things to do - Boat - Birdwatching nearby - Ecotours nearby - Fishing nearby - Golfing nearby - Horseback riding nearby - Mountain biking nearby - Sailing nearby - Scuba diving nearby - Snorkelling nearby - Surfing/bodyboarding nearby - Swimming nearby - Water skiing nearby - Windsurfing nearby ### Safety features - Carbon monoxide detector not reported (host has not indicated whether there is a carbon monoxide detector on the property; consider bringing a portable detector) - Smoke detector not reported (host has not indicated whether there is a smoke detector on the property) ### General - Garden - Unit size: 1,200 square feet ## Policies ### Check-in Check-in time starts at 4:00 PM Minimum check-in age - 25 ### Check-out Check-out before 10:00 AM ### Special check-in instructions You will receive an email from the host with check-in and check-out instructions ### Rules Check in (4.00 pm) and out (10.00 am) are always on a Saturday. The beds were super comfortable - we all slept soundly each night in our bedrooms and the downstairs was also very spacious. But the highlight was the use of the boat and kayaks when the tide came in the Creek. Rob and Sian (the owners) were so kind and thoughtful during our stay and even offered us a free extra night at the end of our week long rental and a late checkout (knowing how logistically tricky it can be to leave at 10am with children!) Thank you so much Rob and Sian.I cannot recommend Pipers Cottage more - the location and aspect are really special. ![](https://a.travel-assets.com/ugc/hotel-reviews/1f8bef30-fcc6-479b-9c50-673c8059abc4-1748801671031.jpg?impolicy=resizecrop&rw=204&ra=fit&q=high) ##### Kathryn M. The cottage is perfect and the location idyllic. The quality of accommodation is excellent, well equipped and with a lovely terrace and garden. The opportunity to use a rowboat on the creek was a real treat. We have been renting holiday properties for over 30 years, going back to the pre internet days of the Lady! This is easily one of the best we have ever stayed in. ##### stephen b. It all started with our outstanding landlords Rob and Sian, who were so warm, welcoming, easy to contact and gave so many helpful recommendations. We loved Pipers Cottage and the surrounding landscape from the very beginning. The cottage is decorated in such a homely way and well equipped, especially the kitchen. Due to the weather, we didn't see many beaches but found many other wonderful things to do for example we enjoyed our walks to Salcombe. Thank you again for everything! ##### Gesa S. You can hear the birds all the time (and I don't mean annoying seagulls). It's a lovely atmosphere. Lots of room in the house, although the stairs are pretty tight for old people (we took our elderly parents). The house was very musty when we first arrived and we had to ventilate it for 2 days before the smell went, but apparently we were the first people to have rented this in 9 months. It seemed find after that, but if you are sensitive to this then it may affect you. I was dosed on large amounts of antihistamines every night. The beaches nearby (all within 30-60 minutes of driving down very tight lanes). Almost all beaches have dogs, so you have to work to avoid them. Beautiful part of the country though. ##### Gari C. The location is superb with very easy access to Kingsbridge, Salcombe and many other fantastic beaches/towns/restaurants in the area. It’s positioned away from the hustle and bustle of a town, but with easy access to good amenities in Kingsbridge. The setting of the cottage is simply picturesque with views across to the creek and surrounding farmland. We loved using our paddle boards in the creek which really is a stones throw from the house. We saw many birds and fish, none of which I can name but great to see. We also sat on the small jetty with a glass of wine… highly recommended! I imagine this would make a wonderful holiday for a family with kids as they can splash around in the sheltered creek and see the wildlife. The house itself is very well appointed. Again, I imagine it would be good for a family with kids given the two bathrooms, playroom and decent sized bedrooms. For just myself and my wife, we had ample space. We cooked in the kitchen most evenings which all worked very well. The lounge was comfortable for my wife and I but perhaps seating a little limited if there were kids. It’s also worth mentioning that the home owner was incredibly friendly and helpful. For example, he provided excellent restaurant recommendations over the phone plus tips around tide times in the area. If you were to push me to find fault, in an ideal world there are a few things around the property that could do with a bit of updating, primarily the upstairs bathroom which looks a little tired. The back garden was also quite overgrown and it would’ve been nice to have used this. However, having said this we enjoyed our stay so much we’ve already enquired about booking to stay again! I’m conclusion, this is a wonderful place for a holiday, setup very well for a family or couple and in a stunning part of the world. I highly recommend. ##### Robert H. Well equipped and cosy house with super comfy beds, well equipped kitchen and plenty of entertaining space. We moved from jetty, to terrace, to back garden for our evening aperitif, with occasional respite in the sitting room to escape the heat. The aesthetic of the inside and outside spaces was really lovely and in keeping with the setting - pared back and natural but extremely comfortable. We loved using the boat during high tide, but were equally happy sitting on the jetty watching the bird life and revelling in the peace. We didn’t travel around much, it was too hot to walk far, but absolutely loved swimming at South Milton Sands and then retreating to the Beach House for delicious seafood lunches overlooking the Mediterranean blue of the sea. Rob was delightful to deal with - helpful and considerate and friendly, We’d love to return some time. ##### Sarah H. Accessing the property was very easy and the host checked in on us to ensure we were enjoying our stay and make sure we were not having any issues. The house is well equipped and we thoroughly enjoyed our time at the cottage. The property can only be accessed by steps, we had one of our elderly parents with us who had no problem, but be aware that anyone requiring special access, this is probably not the holiday cottage for you. ##### Martin W. The cottage is very well equipped and has a lovely sunny but private terrace which over looks the creek. We also enjoyed sunny evenings on the hill in the back garden. The weather was amazing, and we were lucky with the tide times and were able to take our canoe and Roly the rowing boat out on the creek most days. It’s such a peaceful and tranquil place we felt very lucky. Kingsbridge is a short drive away and has a couple of big supermarkets (Tesco and Morrison’s) so it is well served. Rob was a fantastic host and very communicative. He recommended a number of local eateries - which I was able to booked in advance (well worth doing - but do also consider tide times as you won’t want to book a table when high tide is due as you miss your opportunity to go out on the water!). Our favourite place was the Gara Rock Hotel followed by a walk down to the beach. Lots of amazing beaches within a drive from the cottage - all seemed to involve driving down incredibly narrow lanes so be warned ! But well worth the effort. We’d love to return to Pipers Cottage again - such a special place - thank you again ##### Emma F. We enjoyed our stay at Piper's Cottage - parents, grandparents and a 1 and 3 year old. The house was well equipped and comfortable. We loved the front patio - although a week of very poor weather meant we could only sit out twice! We would have used the back garden but, with the lawn and steep steps rather over-grown and the wet conditions, we decided against. We never did venture out in the boat as tides and weather were against us. The area surrounding Piper's Cottage is lovely and we were well placed to explore nearby beaches, towns and villages. The information regarding the area in the cottage file was very useful. Rob and Sian could not have been more helpful, nor John when the water in the shower would not run away. Thank you and we would certainly look to return if we holiday in the area again. Ann and Andrew Ellison ##### ann e.
