Sherriffs, Bantham S.Devon - Village centre ground floor apartment near to beach
Sherriffs, situated in the heart of the small village of Bantham, just a short walk to the delightful country pub, The Sloop Inn, a short stroll up the hill to the local shop and café or a meander down to the famous Bantham beach, is an excellently located ground floor holiday home, perfect for families, friends, limited mobility guests and even pets to enjoy.
Off-road parking for 1 car is found outside the wooden garden gates. Through the front garden gates, a stoned path leads up to the wonderful sheltered wooden porch. To the right a strategically positioned utility room can be found equipped with a washing machine, tumble dryer and chest freezer, guests need not worry about bringing wet clothing, wellies or soggy dogs indoors.

The classic galley kitchen is the perfect cooking space with the open-plan kitchen diner, keeping the social aspect alive. Fitted with gorgeous wooden countertops for preparation and serving, functional crockery, cookware and bakeware storage. Appliances available include an electric oven and hob, dishwasher, large fridge freezer, microwave and toaster.
Down a small step into the dining room, a lovely family table seating up to 6 guests stands. The vintage welsh dresser is a great feature decorated with white and blue china plus a wine rack to the side. Great light is brought through this spacious diner from the wide window overlooking the front garden, as well as the conservatory lounge, presenting a grand view of the rear garden and Avon Estuary in the distance.
Continuing with the open plan layout, the diner unfolds into the conservatory style lounge. This spacious and bright living area is perfect for relaxation right throughout the year. All window blinds, large sofas and cosy armchairs allow guests to settle in, flick on a film on the small TV and DVD-player or simply enjoy sounds of symphonies on the Bluetooth radio.
French doors open out to the perfect outdoor entertainment patio with seating for 8 guests. Whether it is al-fresco BBQ dining, sundowners and sunsets, stargazing or catching the occasional meteor showers, Sherriffs offers it all. A few steps lead down onto the well-maintained lawn garden. A beautiful tree-lined path leading to Bantham Quay is accessed from the rear garden.
Back indoors; two doors leading from the kitchen and dining room take you back into the entrance hall and towards the sleeping arrangements. Lots of space and would have had ample bathrooms etc if shower had been working. All furniture, decor and equipment now looking tired... Might be better suited to families with young children who wouldn't want to feel so anxious about accidents etc
This is a lovely, well equipt apartment, plenty of room for 3 adults and 4 children and a beautiful view from the conservatory. The garden was lovely and the steps down to the river were a bonus.
The location was great, easy to get to the beach and the pub.

super accomodation in a great location
We had a wonderful stay at Sherriffs. The apartment was more than adequate for 4 adults and 3 children. The garden was beautiful with a lovely view of the river. Comfortable and well- equipped, we found everything we needed to cook and eat some of the wonderful local produce on offer from nearby towns. A short walk to some of the most stunning beaches was an added bonus. I highly recommend and look forward to booking this place again soon. Many thanks to our hosts, Liz and Roger.

Another great Golf Tour based on Sherriffs
Sherriffs does precisely what it says on the box, and it really is the ideal base for both young and old to explore and enjoy the South Hams and beyond.
Our group of six golfers returned for yet another year, playing Thurlestone; Bigbury; St Mellion, and East Devon in our shirtsleeves.
The local pub (the 'Sloop') serves great food and the Village Stores can top-up most essentials. The Village Inn in Thurlestone has just been completely re-fitted to a very high standard, and for a complete contrast try 'The Beach House' on South Milton Sands for a memorable lunch or supper.
Can't recommend Sherriffs highly enough. We golfers have booked in for the same time next year!.

Perfect location and set up for a peaceful holiday
This was not my first visit to the property and it was as pristine as ever. The set up with plenty of beds and bathrooms works really well. The Sloop opposite is exceedingly friendly with plenty of locals and other visitors. The food is first rate with lots of fish as you would expect. Bantham is a great base for family beach holidays, golf, or just sightseeing. Sitting on the terrace with a drink at the end the day can't be beaten, always something to see on the estuary or Bigbury Golf Course. Very highly recommended. Ps Also very comfortable beds too!

The perfect place for our golfing holiday
Sherriffs is in an idyllic position, looking across the river estuary to Bigbury Golf Course. It is very well appointed with a superb conservatory where you can sit and simply watch the tide roll in and out, if that takes your fancy.
It is also ideally situated for visiting other local courses, such as Thurlestone, and those not so local, for instance the challenging Nicklaus Course at St Mellion. So that's we golfers well provided for, but there is a whole lot more going on.
A morning stroll round the Ham justifies the consumption of the full English breakfast at the Sloop Inn, only 50 yards away. The Sloop also serves as an ideal place to have dinner, ruling out all the usual problems over who is going to drive! The menu is interesting and varied. Landlord Rob will also supply a take-away service if you prefer to eat at the house.
For those with deep pockets a visit to the Treby Arms at Sparkford is a real thrill. Just forget about the cost and indulge yourself in MasterChef level cooking.
If fresh seafood is your thing, walk around to the Beach Hut at South Milton Sands for a lively experience of local produce.
For the surfers of this world the beach is not far away, with a Surfing Academy and Lifeguards on duty.
Burgh Island continues to hold a fascination for all who visit it. Dartmouth, Salcombe, Modbury and Kingsbbridge are all within a short drive and worth a visit. National Trust members will benefit from various Trust properties in the area.
If you it in all the things to see and do in the area in short holiday you will return exhausted, but happy. We certainly did, but could still play better golf!!

Sheriffs a Great position with fabulous views
When we arrived the house was very clean and tidy and well equipped with linen and towels.
The toilets and washing facilities were clean and quite sufficient for 6 of us.
The garden was well tendered and nice to sit outside on sunny evenings which we had on every day. We spent most our time playing golf and the local courses are very attractive and welcoming and would suit all different handicaps. One of the great advantages of Sherrifs is that there is a very good Pub, The Sloop, which provides excellent food and drink within walking distance.
This is a property that I would recommend to families of all ages from toddlers with a lovely safe beach, to golfers and people who just want to relax.

A relaxing seaside village with riverside views
A most relaxing holiday in a comfortable, clean, light and airy ground floor apartment with fabulous views.
We maintained and clean it felt welcoming and thoughtfully set up for us as new arrivals. It has a lovely conservatory where we sat looking out over the river and hills beyond basking in the warm sun. There is one good step up into the house from the main entrance but it is easy to enter via the conservatory where the step is shallow. The good sized garden is private and secure from the road and very child friendly with grass areas big enough for a good game of badminton or volleyball. We wanted for nothing as the house is so well equipped with everything you need for a family holiday from board games, books and TV to tumble dryer and a chest freezer. Garden furniture, seating area and a small BBQ make for easy entertaining and life outdoors.
The house is perfectly situated in the tiny village, a short walk to the river, river beach and lovely sandy main Bantham beach. Part of this beach is sheltered under cliffs with sandy rock pools, just right for small children to paddle. There is great swimming and surfing off the main beach with opportunities at surf school to learn to ride the waves safely, overseen by the lifeguards. We sampled the tasty food and drinks from the Gastrobus, in the beach carpark, making for an easy lunch while beach bound. The river gives an added dimension to staying here and at low tide, as the river drained the estuary, we walked up river from the main quay, with its collection of varied boats, to watched the herons and egrets in the heronry in the riverside woods. A small boat ferry has a timetabled service from the quay which can get you over the river to walk the coast path or, at low tide, along the river beach to Bigbury island.
We made use of the convenient village shop with its a café, where we took breakfast on its terrace overlooking the river. It’s also great for ice creams, emergency supplied and beach gear and only 100 yrds form the house. The Sloop, is a well-established village pub, where we were served good food by friendly staff on the evenings we took a holiday from cooking.
We were refreshed after an easy self-catering retreat with comfortable indoor living and a great outdoors to explore. A holiday destination to revisit with friends and family.

Beautiful location
We had a wonderful time in this beautiful part of Devon. The property was well maintained and equipped, everything was there that we needed, everything worked and everything was clean. The inside living space felt larger than the impression you get from the photographs. The big win with this property is the location, with the beach an easy walk away - and what a beach! :-). We tended to hit the beach later in the afternoon and relaxed in the garden a lot of the time, there was always a part of the garden that was in the sun (when it wasn't raining) or you could find a shady area if you really must; similarly you could always find some shelter from the breeze. Would I recommend it to a friend? would I come back again? - without a doubt.

A gem
Sherriffs and Bantham village is such special place, I'm almost nervous to share its delights. But it's only fair! Since we've had children we've come almost every year. I even used to come to Bantham every so often as a child myself. It's one of those places.
The house is spotless on arrival. The view over the estuary makes me catch my breath every time. Kitchen well-equipped for proper family cooking. There's even a flask to warm up a picnic on the beach or on the cliffs. Bedrooms - nothing fancy- but very comfortable.
Activities: something for everyone. Young children will love Bantham beach and its golden sands and shallow waters (perfect for paddling). Older children can canoe on the river - bring your own - or hire nearby. When we're feeling brave we float with the current - no gizmos needed. Just a wetsuit for those who feel the chill. Walks/ runs galore.
Restaurants: Oyster Shack at Bigbury. Relaxed, friendly and delicious. Check the tidal road.
Have I said enough to convince you? Just make sure there's still a slot for us!

Wonderful!
Bantham is a great community with a very good pub and superb beaches, and Sherriffs provides the perfect (and very comfortable) base from which to enjoy everything the South Hams has to offer.
For the golfers amongst you (this was our tenth annual golfing stay) we highly recommend a round at Thurlestone (ask for Joan) and Bigbury (ask for NIgel), and St Mellion and Dartmouth are both nearby for the brave-hearts.
Good food is available nearby at The Sloop, or for a great fishy lunch (or supper) try the Beach House at South Milton Sands, or the Oyster Shack at Bigbury, and Salcombe and Kingsbridge offer loads of shopping and eating choices.
Can't recommend Sherriffs highly enough.
You'll love it!
