About this property

Ruby's Cottage - a house that sleeps 4 guests in 2 bedrooms

  • First impressions matter, and as you stroll up the garden path to Ruby's Cottage in Threlkeld, with the mighty Blencathra rising behind it, you'll immediately appreciate just how special this Lake District hideaway is.

Named after the owners' beloved dog, Ruby, this welcoming cottage perfectly blends comfort, character and breathtaking fell views.

Step through the front door into a practical hallway complete with coat hooks and a tray for muddy boots - ideal after a day exploring the fells. To the right, the cosy living room invites you to relax on two comfortable sofas beside the warming log burner. Unwind with your favourite shows on the Smart TV with Netflix, or simply enjoy the stunning views towards Clough Head with a good book.

Further along the hallway is the dining room, offering generous seating for leisurely home‑cooked meals. A selection of board games ensures entertainment for all ages. The well‑equipped kitchen has everything you need to cook with ease, including an induction hob, oven with separate grill, microwave, dishwasher and washer‑dryer.

Up on the first floor, you'll find the family bathroom with a large bath - perfect for a long soak after hill walking - plus a separate shower, WC and backlit mirror. This floor also hosts a king‑size bedroom with lovely views of Clough Head and Threlkeld Knotts, as well as an additional double bedroom available for an extra charge.

The second floor reveals a charming loft‑style king‑size bedroom with dual‑aspect views of Blencathra and Clough Head.

Outside, Ruby's Cottage boasts two delightful outdoor spaces: a front lawn and a rear seating area with table and chairs. The rear garden is the perfect spot for a glass of wine at sunset and is fully Beagle‑escape‑proof, making it ideal for dog‑friendly Lake District holidays.

Threlkeld is a charming Lake District village sitting at the foot of Blencathra, just a short distance from Keswick. A paradise for walkers and outdoor lovers, the village has direct access to classic fell routes including Blencathra, Clough Head, and the northern fells, with gentler valley walks also right on the doorstep.

Despite its peaceful, rural feel, Threlkeld has a friendly village community with a well‑regarded local pub, café, and a village hall that often hosts events. Keswick is only a short drive or bus ride away, offering supermarkets, restaurants, shops, and attractions, making Threlkeld an ideal base for a Lake District stay that balances tranquillity with convenience.

If you're looking to venture out into the Lake District without a car, Threlkeld is serviced by the X4 and X5 bus services, running all the way from Workington to Penrith, linking Threlkeld to local train stations and neighbouring villages.

Gorgeous cottage and location

We loved Ruby’s cottage and the stunning location so much that this was our second stay there, returning only 4 days after our first stay! Cottage lovely and comfortable with everything you need, jaw dropping views, short walk to local pubs and within easy reach of Keswick and other Lakes destinations. Ruby’s influence and impact clear as very dog friendly. Will certainly be back.
