  • The Kenwood House is a spacious yet cozy, turn-of-the-century Wine Country cottage overlooking the Kenwood Plaza in Kenwood, California. In the heart of Sonoma Valley’s celebrated Valley of the Moon, this luxury vacation rental has welcomed guests since 1998. Next door, the historic Kenwood Community Church and the peaceful plaza set a distinctly local scene, while a seasonal creek winds beside the house through the gardens. Solar panels and Tesla battery backup provide added resilience during power outages.

    Accommodations at the Kenwood House include two deluxe bedrooms with feather beds, down comforters and luxurious linens. The Living room has a brand new comfortable queen sleeper sofa .There are 1-1/2 baths and it includes a 6 person therapeutic spa (HOT TUB), spacious redwood decks, gas fire pit, gas BBQ, enchanting gardens, stone fireplace, central heating, air conditioning, free wireless internet, 60" flat screen TV, beautiful fully equipped sunny kitchen, washer and dryer.

    The base rate for the house is for up to 4 guests. Two additional guests can be accommodated for an additional nightly rate of $30.00 per guest per night.

    The house is approximately 1/4 mile from Hwy. 12 and is the perfect location for exploring the wine country of Sonoma and Napa valleys. Within easy walking distance are the Kenwood Winery, Kunde Winery and VJB. Also walking distance are two excellent restaurants with many more in Glen Ellen, Sonoma or Napa.

    Within a 5 mile radius are 3 state parks offering many possibilities for outdoor recreation including biking, picnicking, hiking and swimming. Sugarloaf Ridge State Park offers excellent hiking as well as the Robert Ferguson Observatory, for a look at the night sky. Annadel State Park offers world class mountain biking, hiking and horseback riding. For a taste of history, literature, hiking or a leisurely walk, Jack London State Park is incomparable and uniquely Sonoma Valley.

    Kenwood is located in the center of the wine country with hundreds of Sonoma and Napa Valley wineries within easy driving distance. Spa facilities are available nearby at the Kenwood Inn and other local day spas. For shopping, restaurants, history and more wine tasting, the town of Sonoma is only a short drive away.

My wife and i absolutely LOVED the Kenwood House! Perfect location, clean, private, comfortable, and the owners could not have been nicer! Very well stocked home. What we really loved is that it was not in the super-busy areas of the Napa valley, but everything was within 30 mins. As we were driving through Napa, Sonoma, etc., we kept saying how glad we were to be staying where we were. Those areas are nice, but pretty congested. There are great restaurants and wineries close by - Palooza for casual, VRB for food and wine and our favorite was the Mill at Glen Ellen. This was the perfect vacation to our 25 yr anniversary and made more special by the home and the owners. We did not use the hot tub, but we did enjoy sitting in the gardens and having a glass of wine. If you are unsure of where to stay, please give this strong consideration. It is great!!

Little bit of heaven

Thai cottage is even nicer than the pics and the hosts make it a remarkable experience. It’s close to great restaurants and wineries. The backyard is an oasis and the cottage feels at home the minute you walk in. The bed linens are lovely and Don and Amy know the little items that make it feel like home. Will be back next year…

We had a lovely experience staying at the Kenwood Cottage. It was very comfortable, had everything we needed and more! Our hosts were responsive and invested in us having an awesome experience. Beyond Wonderful!!!

This by far with the best VRBO I have ever stayed in! The property was absolutely beautiful. The backyard was the perfect place for friends to sit and share a glass of wine. The hosts had so many small details that made our stay perfect from the music going in the house on arrival to fresh flowers on the table. I without a doubt plan on returning, and this property set the bar high for any other vacation rental!

Little Slice of Heaven

The Kenwood House is so quaint, peaceful and beautiful! The location is perfect! Don and Amy are incredible hosts. We walked into the house to find gentle music playing, great bottle of wine and assortment of cheese in the fridge. Box of crackers on the counter and a personalized welcome letter. I have stayed in a lot of VRBO’s before but this way by far the best. They even had bottled water, eggs, milk in the fridge so we didn’t have to run right out to the grocery store. You can tell this is much more than a VRBO property to them. The location is perfect, you can walk to restaurants and a great winery. We thoroughly enjoyed our stay there!

Fantastic All Around

Our stay in the Kenwood House was absolutely delightful. It’s an older home with incredible charm and character that’s been updated and the photos do not do it justice, especially the backyard, which was literally an expansive botanical oasis. It was a great homebase for our journey to all the vineyards in Napa and Sonoma counties and we had a delightful dinner one night at a nearby gastropub and brewery. Also the tasting room for Ty Caton vineyards near the gastropub was an unexpected surprise. I do have to share that our flight to SFO was delayed so we would be arriving at the house much later than expected. As we got closer to the town of Kenwood we couldn’t find a grocery store using the maps feature on our phones (not sure why as we later located a Safeway about 15 minutes from the house) but did find a 7-Eleven where we purchased a bottle of wine and some snacks. We needn’t have bothered because when we got to the house there was a bottle of Kenwood Vineyards wine and a wheel of Camembert cheese and some crackers waiting for us – such a treat! We would stay here again in a heart beat!

The home is charming, spotless, and very “Napa.” We loved the décor, the layout, and the beautiful backyard. The owners were responsive, and the space was comfortable overall. Future guests should note that many wineries are far from Kenwood, so plan for extra travel time or transportation costs. The outdoor deck is also extremely slippery, which is clearly posted, but families with children may want to be cautious.Be sure to read the house rules closely. Our group ended up with five guests instead of four, and although the home sleeps six, the owners required full names for everyone and immediately charged the extra guest fee. While the fee is stated, the interaction felt stricter than expected. Also, the “no smoking” rule applies both indoors and outdoors, which isn’t clearly explained.During our stay, the owners entered the property to fix landscape lighting without notifying us beforehand, despite the rules stating they would reach out first. While the repair was appreciated, the lack of notice made us uncomfortable. After this visit, I received an email stating that a bag of trash was left outside and that smoking was not permitted. It felt like we were in trouble or something. As a group of working professionals, it put us off.Overall, the home is lovely and will work well for many travelers, but the strict rules and interactions with the owners left us feeling less welcome than we hoped.

My family and I can't say enough about how much we loved the Kenwood House! Charming, lovely home with beautiful yards and quiet neighborhood. The pictures don't do it justice. It's truly wonderful! And the home is spotless and equipped with everything we needed. It's also in a good central location between Glen Ellen / downtown Sonoma and the Santa Rosa area. Not having stayed in many vacation homes before I was prepared to be disappointed. But instead, was so happily surprised. And another in our family, who has stayed in many vacation homes, said this was the best experience he's had. We will recommend this home to anyone going to Sonoma!
