The best area to stay in Katholikon is the monastery grounds themselves, or in the nearby village of Avgo.

The Katholikon Monastery offers a truly great experience. While not a traditional hotel, it provides guest rooms for visitors seeking a tranquil and reflective stay. The monastery is built into a cliffside, offering stunning views of the gorge and the surrounding natural landscape. Staying here means being directly immersed in the history and spiritual essence of the area, with the ancient monastery buildings and the Church of St. Nicholas just steps away. This is an ideal choice for solo travellers looking for peace and a connection to the historical significance of the site.

For those who prefer more conventional accommodation with amenities, the village of Avgo is a good option. It's a small, quiet village located a short drive from the monastery, offering guesthouses and a few local tavernas. Avgo provides a comfortable base for exploring the wider area, including the monastery and nearby hiking trails.

The best time to visit Katholikon is during the shoulder seasons of May, early June, and September, or in October.

If you're interested in water-based activities or prefer warmer weather, July and August are also suitable, though you should expect more visitors and higher temperatures.
