Find hotels in Kanzenze from £20

The best area to stay in Kanzenze is around the shores of Lake Kivu, particularly near the town of Rubavu (formerly Gisenyi), which offers a blend of natural beauty and convenient amenities.

Rubavu is the main town on the Rwandan side of Lake Kivu and serves as a popular gateway for exploring the region. It's known for its sandy beaches, clear waters, and a relaxed pace of life. The town centre itself has a number of hotels, restaurants, and local markets, while the lakeside promenade is ideal for strolls and enjoying the views.

For couples seeking a relaxing getaway, the hotels and lodges dotted along the lakefront just outside Rubavu are an excellent choice. These properties often feature private beach access, stunning lake views, and amenities like spas or boat trips, providing a luxurious and tranquil experience.

Solo travellers who appreciate both convenience and natural beauty will find Rubavu town appealing. It offers easy access to local eateries, a chance to interact with local culture at the markets, and opportunities for activities like kayaking on the lake or exploring the nearby Imbabazi Orphanage and its gardens.

The best time to visit Kanzenze is during the long dry season, which runs from June to September.

This period typically offers clear, sunny days with comfortable temperatures, making it ideal for outdoor activities like exploring the local tea plantations or engaging in community visits. The dry conditions ensure that roads and trails are easily accessible, which is particularly helpful for navigating the region.

Families will find this time especially convenient as the pleasant weather allows for uninterrupted enjoyment of the natural surroundings and cultural experiences without the concern of rain disrupting plans. It's also a good time for those interested in photography, as the clear skies provide excellent light.

For travellers looking to combine their visit with gorilla trekking in nearby Volcanoes National Park, the dry season is also preferable.
