The owner is the chef at the restaurant, called Nico’s. I had an excellent mountain view, which I was able to enjoy from bed every morning. The cleaning crew were efficient and very good. The staff was very helpful with planning alternative hikes. I chose to walk the 800m from the train station, which for me was very doable. However, I am very fit and this may not be an option for everyone. The breakfast buffet was very good. I also had dinner at the hotel restaurant, Nico's, which was excellent. It was my best dining experience in Kandersteg and during my stay in Switzerland. The spa was small, but clean and very relaxing. I asked if we leave our bags and she took us to the room where we could leave our luggage until check in. I did not feel welcome at all. The property is nice, clean, comfortable beds and spacious room. The area was very quite for the time we were there, not everything was open, but we enjoyed it that way. Breakfast was good. I dropped my book between the bed and the cabinet and my book was covered in dirt and fluff. We did not use the swimming pool - or should I say plunge pool. The online photo makes it seem like the pool is about 25m long but in fact it is more like 10m! The swimming pool is very dark and dingy and not at all inviting. It's a sham because we chose this hotel because it had a pool. On the plus side, the beds were extremely comfortable and the breakfast was great, a very good selection of muesli and breads.
