Embark on an adventure of mouthwatering flavors and sweet aromas at Jungli Night Market (aka Zhongli Tourist Night Market). Browse dozens of stands that serve up traditional dishes from all corners of Taiwan. Complementing the food culture of Jungli Night Market are shops that hawk everything from clothing to household items and souvenirs. The market stretches for several hundred meters on Xinming Road, a busy thoroughfare situated in downtown Jungli. Dedicate a couple of hours to making your way between the many stands, engaging in conversations with the traders and enjoying the vibrant atmosphere. Food is the market’s main attraction and a visit presents a great opportunity to sample typical delicacies of Taiwan and the Taoyuan County. Try seafood snacks such as fried squid balls, oyster pancakes and pineapple shrimp. Meat lovers will enjoy tasting barbecued chicken, chicken feet and pork intestine noodle soup. Other classic dishes on offer include rice bowls and sweet potato balls. If you are feeling daring then order a plate of stinky tofu, which is a fermented tofu of Chinese origin that’s known for its pungent smell. Refresh your palate with cut mangoes and papaya milkshakes. Give your taste buds a rest and wander amid the market’s retail section. You’ll find stands selling aromatherapy products, home decorations and cell phone accessories. Shop for children’s clothing, discounted Asian-inspired fashion and leather bags. There’s even a section with fairground-style amusements and games, some of which give prizes to the winners. The market is around a 15-minute walk from A21 Huanbei metro station. Zhongli Station, the main transport link between Jungli and Taoyuan City Centre, is 1 mile (1.6 kilometers) away. Jungli Night Market is open daily from 5 p.m. You can combine your time here with a visit to nearby attractions. Go rollerblading at Guangming Park and try more street food at the Chung Yuan Night Market.
