There are fabulous views of the surrounding hills to the sides of the villa and a spectacular panoramic vista across the Caribbean to the front. The upper floor consists of a large living area and fully fitted kitchen; the master bedroom with queen size bed, a french door leading to the veranda, and an en-suite shower room; a further queen size bedroom with veranda access and guest bathroom; and a utility/laundry room. Double doors from the living room lead to a large covered external veranda and wrap round gallery with dining set for 8 and plenty of occasional seating. There is an external staircase and an internal spiral staircase to the lower floor. Here there is a day room with its own kitchen area, a twin bedroom and a queen size bedroom, both with en-suite shower rooms. The lower floor rooms open on to the large sundeck with swimming pool, plenty of sun loungers, a barbecue and a shower room with WC. There is private parking for up to 4 cars on the driveway at the rear of the villa. It should be noted that car hire is strongly recommended for stays at Calabash. The Palms is a new luxury villa development set on a wooded hillside in a delightful valley location with fabulous panoramic views over Darkwood Beach and the turquoise sea beyond. Darkwood is a very scenic beach, an island favourite and certainly one of the most photographed beaches in the Caribbean. Still unspoilt, with the island of Montserrat in the distance, it has two good local beach bars and restaurants with beds and shade. The location is peaceful and serene, yet is only minutes way from Jolly Harbour and several other bars, restaurants and adjoining beaches. Jolly Harbour is the largest and finest marina in the Caribbean with superb recreation facilities. A fine 18-hole golf course and a sports centre with tennis courts and a squash court cater for the actively minded, whilst the commercial centre has a wide range of shops, restaurants, bars, and a supermarket to sustain the needs for everyday living. For all its many amenities, Jolly Harbour remains a sophisticated and tranquil setting to while away the holiday hours. The construction of a villa on an adjacent piece of land commenced in May 2023 and this may cause some disturbance during certain hours of daylight and some loss of total privacy. Beautiful views and the pool was clean and great to swim in. Howard was super helpful and Jenny and her son checking in with us to see that we were ok. Overall a great stay The only two things to mention are the road to the villa which you do need an SUV for ideally. We loved the big spacious feel of the living room. Air conditioning was also very welcome.All of the bathrooms could do with an upgrade especially the showers, but bedrooms were well appointed with lots of storage & with lovely soft linen. There's plenty of towels provided for pool and beach. Pool area was great and kitchen had everything you needed. We had to change the gas bottle over which might be challenging for some as might the spiral staircase to lower bedrooms. There's access them from outside stairs once you have unlocked the doors.Something to be aware of - the road to the villa is extremely steep and the next-door neighbour has put up a dangerous fence at the bottom which isn't straight but curves inwards and has no reflectors or markers on it making it not visible at all at night time. It significantly damaged our hire car. The pictures on advert show the villa as secluded surrounded by greenery - it doesn't show the two new builds next door, one overlooking the pool area. Unfortunately, the noise proved to be very loud with angle grinding, tile cutting, drilling and concrete mixer constantly going. It really spoilt our stay. This was such a shame as it was lovely and peaceful when the builders were not there.Highly recommend going on the Jabberwocky Boat, Julia's, Dennis's on Ffryes Beach.Cosmore & Brandon the taxi drivers were legends and Antiguan locals warm and welcoming. ##### Justine N. There were 8 of us (6 adults and two children ages 6 yrs & 17 months old).The description is accurate as are the pictures, but it is more beautiful in person. The view is amazing and it is quiet and peaceful. The kitchen is well appointed, we had breakfast every morning and a combination of lunch and dinner at the villa or out at restaurants.There is a BBQ grill available also if you want to grill out. Jenny was wonderful and helpful, and suggested great places to see and dine and Howard is very attentive with anything you need regarding booking etc. Both are very helpful with any questions or concerns you may have while in Antigua. The property is very clean and very well maintained. The pool is delightful or you can take a quick walk/drive down to Darkwood beach which is wonderful. It's very easy to feel at home and not want to leave. There are some great places to eat close by such as Miracles and Dennis', and there is a grocery store nearby with pretty much everything you need.You'll need to get bottled water I will add that you definitely need some mosquito/bug repellent for you stay as they can be pretty pesky when the sun starts to set. Renting this villa and a car is the best way to TRULY experience Antigua. You give yourself the opportunity to do and see things you normally will not if you stay at a resort and get access to more local places such as restaurants, and shops.You can buy local things roadside such as roast corn, ginipps, sweet apples and other wonderful things! She was available to answer any questions or concerns that we had. There were a few maintenance issues, but Jenny ensured that it was taken care of in a timely manner. The house was beautiful, it was a lot better in person. It was a shock having only a TV in the living area (with 8 people). However, it worked out great! We were able to disconnect from the TV. Something that we thought wouldn't be possible. The water is not drinkable, so you would need to buy bottles of water. Jenny even brought us a big bottle of water on our arrival. The area was great and we never felt that we were not safe. The trip to St. John was a little longer that I anticipated, and the roads made it seem more longer. Before the trip, I was a little nervous about booking on this website (always stayed in a hotel). However, Howard was available to answer all of my questions and walk me through this process that was unfamiliar to me. Our family would definitely visit the Calabash again. Darkwood beach is within walking distance and is beautiful. Both Howard and Jenny were very responsive though-out. The road up to the villa does require a SUV. Calabash was a beautiful escape with everything you could possibly need. The house is roomy, gorgeous and fit our party of 8 perfectly! The views are breathtaking and surreal. The house was clean and well stocked with all the amenities you could possibly need. Jennie was super informative and helpful and Howard had a grill issue fixed within hours. The house is beautiful, well equiped, comfortable and I'd give it more stars if I could. We loved the privacy, the pool, the charcoal grill, etc. We also LOVED that the best beach - darkwood beach - is basically a 3 min car ride away - the brave could walk it - hills and very rocky. And most days - we owned the beach. Chairs, umbrellas and the like may be rented there. Jenny was very gracious and accommodating. She greeted us when we arrived, gave us a tour, restaurant suggestions etc. She was also there to say goodbye when we were departing. We loved the free pickup from and back to airport transportation that this rental provided as well. Only note of caution for American travelers; if you rent a car - (and it will be there for you at the house when you arrive) - the steering wheel is on the opposite side from American cars and you drive on the other side of the road than we do. We really feel one does need a car there. And the hill up to the house is a very difficult one to manage. My 25 year old son, with good skills and nerves did all of the driving there. But that was the one "challenge" to this trip. We found the people, island and its culture just awesome. We loved the trip!!! ##### Mary T. Darkwood Beach is just down the Hill, food, drinks and views. Washer/Dryer/Gas stove/BBQ grill on pool deck. We were met at the airport and the driver gave us a narrative of the island as he drove us to the house. So many great beaches close by. The local Darkwood beach was one of the best on the island, beautiful sand and a lovely place to snorkel, all with the added bonus of a friendly beach bar! St. Johns is a vibrant town and well worth a visit to experience the real Caribbean. Take a trip through the rain forest to English Harbour and Nelson's Dockyard and on your way back call at Colesome on Jonas Road, for fresh local fruit and veg. Emalyn was so friendly and helpful, nothing was too much trouble whilst we were there. Howard made booking and getting to Calabash really easy, the driving directions were so easy to follow! I would not hesitate to recommend this villa to anyone who wants to visit Antigua and avoid the commercial, tourist hotels. I would love to return! ##### Niki D. There were 6 adults and 2 children for my special birthday. What an amazing house with stunning views. The house catered to all our needs. We felt comfortable from the start and couldn't ask for more. Jenn greeted us and gave us plenty of tips and places to eat. I want to say a special thank you to Jenn for that reason. The house is in a perfect location to explore the island. I will hopefully come back in the future. I would also like to thank Howard prior to our holiday for all his help. Beaches close by are beautiful and people are very friendly in Antigua. The only negative comment I would make is the road and I know they are dealing with this. Ample sleeping space for 4 adults and 3 teenagers and each bedroom with its own full bathroom was a bonus. Kitchen has all the gadgets needed, with a large dining area and great room complete with TV, Satellite and WiFi. We were warmly greeted by the property manager Jennie who took care of any needs or problems we encountered with ease. Set high up on the hill, the only drawback of the property is getting up the very lumpy dirt road to it. But once up at Calabash a sense of peaceful bliss can be experienced on the extensive decking facing the ocean and hills. The pool was a refreshing addition if we chose to spend the day lounging. Located near the best beaches on Antigua, and an easy drive from a multitude of great restaurants. Would definitely recommend this property and hope to return someday! Our family chose this property in which to celebrate a BIG birthday and it didn't disappoint. The villa was beautifully constructed and decorated in a colonial style with original artwork throughout. It had everything that you could want as far as facilities were concerned including a Webber BBQ - of which we made extensive use. The villa is situated within the most picturesque part of the island of Antigua, a short walk away from the stunning Darkwood Beach (other lovely beaches were only a short drive away). It was everything it said it was! Comfortable, clean, quiet(except for the tree frogs sending you to sleep!) we couldn't have asked for more. Howard and Jenny made our stay at Calabash so easy, nothing was too much trouble. Eating out was no problem and would certainly recommend 'Miracles' A car is a must, this was organised for us as well. Darkwood Beach is gorgeous and just a nice walk down from the villa and super fish in the bar on the beach. Archival ### 10/10 Excellent #### Jennie C. 28 Nov 2015 #### Fantastic family holiday We stayed at Calabash for just over a week. As a family of 4 (kids aged 6 and 9) the house had room to spare! The house itself is of a very high standard. Lovely towels and bed linen, moden decor etc. The kitchen is well equipt and we did a mixture of eating in and out. The pool is excellent and plenty big enough to swim in. The location was also great. There is a beach just at the end of the road, you could walk in 15 minutes or so but we tended to drive. We spent a lot of time on Darkwood Beach and often had it essentially to ourselves. The beach cafe there has basic chips (fries) and hot dogs etc. but thier more "up market" food was really very good - excellent fried fish. There are other restaurants within a short drive. Dealing with the property managers, especially Howard pre booking and Jenny while we were there was extremely easy. Good communication throughout and we felt that if we needed anything while we were there they wouln't have hesitated to help. Ultimately, we wouldn't hestitate to recommend Calabash and hope to stay there again ourselves. ##### Jennie C. ---
