Cute and picturesque boutique hotel
This is a tiny hotel. The room and bathroom also tiny (at least ours was). This did not bother us, I actually loved the room and the bathroom. The bathroom looks new, very hot water and good pressure. The hotel rooftop has a perfect view of the Blue Mosque on one side and the ocean on the other. (between the rooftop and these sights you will also see ugly building rooftops. But this you will see from any hotel around. The staff is SO friendly and helpful and the breakfast, which was included for us was DELICIOUS. There was plenty of traditional food, but also plenty of food for picky eaters (cereal, bread, fruit, eggs, etc). The location is also fabulous. Very close to all the usual attractions as well as a couple of blocks from an exchange bank and about half a block away from a small mini market. Negatives: very small rooms and bathroom. Mini fridge didn't seem to be cold enough--(we bought beer and wanted to cool them there, even the following day there weren't really that cold. It wasn't a big deal.) Pros: charming, clean, good location, view, friendly english-speaking staff.

Perfect location for all tourist attractions
Very good location near to almost all the old city attractions like Aya Sofia, Blue Mosque, Grand Bazaar etc. Breakfast was always perfect and the cook Rabia has given us perfect customer service. They have very good roof top restaurant with heart throbbing view of sea and blue mosque.

Not recommended
Nowhere near as good as any of the reviews I read. Worst of all, I asked for transport from the airport, cancelled 10 hours in advance, and they insisted I still pay, although there was nothing in writing about the arrangement being non-refundable. Lost an earring under the bathroom cabinet, and was horrified at how dirty the floor was there. Never again.

Close to everything, decent place to stay, no chic
Stayed as a couple for 3 nights, used the hotel mainly to sleep and shower. Great location, close to everything in Old Town (5 min walk). Breakfast buffet ok but nothing too impressive (yoghurt and cereal, bread, pre-packed butter and jam, Turkish cheeses and salami, olives). The shower did leak as previous reviews suggested, although not too bad. Our window opened onto a wall. AC worked very well. The staff was VERY nice and accommodating.

Tiny rooms
Room is so small. The 3 of us had a hard time moving in the room. Just to get to the bathroom we have to walk sideways because the beds pretty much covers the room. Hardly any walking space. Will not stay here again. Location is great tho cuz its right next to the blue mosque and the bazaar.

Good value, very satisfied
Unbeatable location. Nice breakfast. Clean room. The fan didn't work and the TV didn't work in the room but we didn't care there was still A/C and we don't care much about TV anyway, just thought I would mention it for the review. The room was very small, however we knew it would be because it was a special price so obviously they didn't give the large room for us. Everything was clean but updated bathroom fixtures would be nice. Hotel staff is pleasant and friendly. Overall we are very satisfied and would book again if we could get it fr the same price. We spent 6 nights in the hotel.

Great Istanbul stay in Sultanahmet
Second stay of five nights at the end of a month in Turkey. Perfect location. Friendly reception staff. Delicious breakfast on terrace prepared by very friendly staff. Excellent and thorough housekeeping staff. Room a little worn around the edges but most comfortable and convenient. Priced affordable.

What more could you ask for in a hotel property?
Five days beginning of May, and it could not be more convenient, nicer staffed, offer a more delicious breakfast, comfortable room, better location or better value. Staying again at end of May for another five nights. Highly recommend the Mevlana Boutique Hotel. Have stayed in Istanbul more than 24 times in last 20 years, always in Sultanahmet, and this was our favorite place of all. The Manager Ali is great and Ercan at reception super, along with spotless and considerate kitchen staff, and amazing housekeeping crew. What more could you ask for in a hotel property?

Very tiny and small rooms. I paid extra for a 18 sqm room, but a room with these dimensions didn't exist and after changing my room for 3 times, they told me there has been a problem in their calculation. No hot water during busy times. No help from the hotel staff and they just try to sell their tours and events. Whatever price they told me, I find cheaper elsewhere.

Noisy hotel, hard bed, super tiny bed/bathroom
We stayed at the hotel for two days. It was the worst hotel I have stayed in in my whole life. Bedroom is so tiny that it is hard to get to even to bed, bathroom is so tiny that two of us couldn't be standing there at the same time. The walls are so thin that we could hear receptionist talking at a normal voice level on the ground floor even though our room was on the second floor. Plus there were some construction works going on in the neighbouring building. Also bed is very hard and pillows are like bricks. The regular price for the room is 100 Euro, but we got it for about 50 USD on Expedia. It was still very overpriced for it. It is really worth 20 USD max.

No Open outlets in room. Shower leaked on the floor. Otherwise excellent breakfast and very helpful staff. Very few English channels on tv, but so much to do in the area that there is no time to watch any way! Killer views of Blue Mosque and Bosporus Strait from rooftop lounge area.

A near disaster put right
We had high hopes for the Mevlana for a short layover in Istanbul en route to the USA, based on existing reviews. We arrived from Africa early in the morning and were kindly granted access to a room, although this was in the basement and very small. When renovations in the adjacent building started to interfere with our sleep, however (with jackhammer and buzz saw, workmen shouting and pile-driving), only our exhaustion after a night spent awake on the plane allowed us to doze intermittently. I finally pleaded for a move to an upstairs room and was given a fourth-floor pleasant and larger room with a sunny window and view of the Blue Mosque. If this hadn't happened, my review would have been quite dire, I'm afraid! I would like to note the pleasant and courteous manner of the reception and lobby staff, and the truly excellent and interesting breakfast buffets with pleasant kitchen staff. Thanks so much.

Best trip
Hi, i was there with my friend for business. When i first saw the hotel, i was a little shoked, i didnt expect it too small, but we got use to it, it was very clean, the cleaning lady was very nice, every day she made the room look perfect. The rest of the staff was nice too, especialy hoktai, he is an amazing guy, very nice. And also the hotel is a resnable price for the location. It was close to everything with walking distance. I would defenately go back on my next trip.

Good location and facilities.
Mevlana Boutique was quite good, and it is very well situated, providing excellent views of the Sultanahmet/Blue Mosque, the Bosphorous Strait and the Black Sea. The staff attitude and hotel service, along with the bath facilities, the cleanliness and condition, are very good. I was provided a room in the basement, and for me, that was the only disappointment, even though there was a lift. I wish I was given an option to select a better located room, and next time I will ask for it at the time of booking. Also, windows that open to a street should be provided full curtains that can be deployed for adequate privacy. Otherwise I was quite satisfied. Thanks.

Pleasant Surprise in Istanbul
The hotel was a great surprise as we didn't expect it to be so conveniently located. The view of the Bosphorus and the Blue mosque from the Hotel terrace is absolutely gorgeous. The hotel staffs are super helpful, friendly and accommodating. [I loved the kitchen/serving staffs in the terrace room who were very nice to me even with some language barrier. The reception staff is knowledgeable and helpful with baggage storing, early check-in and securing cheap airport shuttle.] As with any boutique hotels, the rooms are cozy but clean. The hotel is situated two blocks away from the Arasta Bazaar and the Blue mosque. There are tons of eating areas nearby which are open late into the night. The surrounding neighborhood is safe and very cute with cobblestone streets. I'd stay here again and recommend it others [with the exceptions of those traveling with children as the rooms only decent size.] I miss having breakfast from the Mevlana overlooking the Bosphorus water.

In Great Location BUT
Do not take serious their most important key promotional sentence which is: "Don’t worry, we haven’t taken any payment as you’ll pay the hotel directly in their local currency,......" And elsewhere that says: "Your booking is guaranteed and you’ll pay at the hotel in their local currency." Basically, they deduct the invoice from the credit card that you use for booking one day before your arrival (without prior consent of YOURS). Although you will find on the registration card of the hotel that there are two options to choose:"payment by card" or "in cash". The receptionist (the daytime one) was totally incapable of giving you a reasonable explanation for this contradiction & would refer you to a link to the hotel's terms and conditions policy. We tried 2 rooms of the hotel (standard and premium) & although the cost of one was twice more than the other, you could not find any difference except that TV was not working in the standard room (even the local channels) and the premium one had some local channels plus BBC. At the first moment of our arrival in the standard room, the curtain and its holder dropped on my head but got fixed on the same evening. Our standard room on the 5th floor was adjacent to restaurant which meant being woken up around 6 a.m. because of the noises the personnel make for preparing the breakfast but the variety of items on breakfast was good. To me, it was not a 4-star one but an average 3 star hotel located in a strategic touristic area.

Good location but misleading photos
A great location - but we were put initially in a basement room which was easily viewable from the road. Next day we got a better room but most of the tiny rooms are facing inward. Breakfast was very low end. Coffee was acceptable though. We think there must be better on offer elsewhere.

Great location, but... Worker was suspicious taking my cash and credit card but not immediately providing change or receipts, Room was not ready so (after I had paid to stay at 4 star) they lead me to a next door NOT 4 star hotel with an uncomfortable bed and very thin walls.

Stayed for 3 nights in Mevlana. Location is very good close to Blue Mosque and it's quite around. Which is good for those who traveling with family and kids. Other hotels around are noisy due to cafe and restaurants around (works till 1 am). This hotel is also not far from Bosporus (about 7 mins walk). You can also rent a bike (25 liras per day) just at the next street behind the hotel from Suleiman at traveler club. You can also take the bikes with you on a boat for the trip which lasts 6 hours. Guys at reception are very polite and helpful, also speaks very good English.

The hotel is a 3 star hotel not a 4 star
The location is very close by to the main attraction, if that's what your looking it's in a great spot. However to walk up to the hotel was quite difficult for my mum due to the rubble we had to walk up to every evening. The beds were uncomfortable and difficult to sleep on, however they were kind enough to give us another room. But we ended up with noisy American neighbours due to the wall being thing. There are a few things that they need to improve to be a 4 star hotel.

Run Down and not worth the money
Tried five different rooms since we had two rooms booked and had issues with all rooms. One room was the wrong type and dark and small, the other had a non-working A/C and smelled really bad. Sound insulation between rooms is terrible, you can hear almost everything. Rooms are terribly small and dark except for x02, x03, and x04 Mattresses are all worn and not flat in any way Bathrooms are all extremely small to the point where to sit on the toilet in our room I had to either sit sideways or have one leg inside the shower which is higher than the rest of the bathroom Bathroom toiletries are cheap at best, tiny soaps. Floors are all squeaky inside the rooms, so you could hear the people walking upstairs and we assume downstairs heard us walking. Lights in the bathroom didn’t stay on all the time Most of the staff members were helpful and courteous, although, compared to other hotels in Turkey they definitely need improvement. One staff member was constantly trying to upsell us on the rooms and even though he had initially told us it was ok for a late check out, changed his mind the next day and basically made us scramble to change plans which affected what we could see in Istanbul. Breakfast is similar to what you would get in the rest of Turkey, nothing special. Wifi is spotty

Don't judge a hotel with jet lag!
Arrived first after a 21 hour flight. Hotel was in a great location and staff were helpful. My basic Room was very small and soooo dark. I couldn't read and had to request a lamp. Overall I was pretty disappointed as I felt I was in darkest Europe not sunny Istanbul. I returned a couple of weeks later to the same room but the darkness didn't seem quite as gloomy. However reading lamps are essential if you are to read a tourist guide, a book etc. the big plus was the quiet room but the bathroom had the most curious plumbing noises. The building has been painted white so don't look for the timber building in the photos.

Great Location -- Uncomfortable Stay
The hotel is located very well -- exactly the areas that I would be visiting. So, because of that I was happy with where I was. However, my experience at the hotel was poor. The walls are extremely thin, and I could hear everything that was going on in the hotel, to include a very sick person next to me. The bathroom was not clean when I arrived and I felt uncomfortable staying in the hotel. The price of the hotel is good compared to other establishments, but I feel that I should have paid more to stay somewhere else.

Good Hotel Close to Attractions
I booked this hotel because I just needed a place to crash at for one night. I booked a 150sq ft single bed at a discounted rate because it was literally the day before that I booked it. When I arrived they gave me a two-single beds room. Other than this which didn't bother me at all everything else was perfect. For people coming from North America the rooms in Istanbul will be surprisingly small so do lower your expectations!

Booking ahead: beware!
We booked into Mevlana Hotel for 2 separate nights; one night before & one night after our tour to Gallipoli. On arrival for the 1st night we were told that it was 'high season' & they were full. This is despite the fact that we booked with hotels.com 8 months previously. We were told that they would accommodate us in their sister hotel next door, but that they would 'upgrade' us. What a joke! The room we were given was less than I would expect from the cheapest backpacker hostel, we slept under blankets with no sheets and some pillows had no pillowcases. The room we were given was small & dingy to the nth degree and bore no resemblance to the rooms displayed on their website. To make matters worse, we told Mevlana that our tour company was expecting to pick us up at Mevlana, so we would return there in the morning. But during the afternoon our tour company emailed us to say that they had contacted Mevlana who told them that we weren't staying there any longer & they wanted to know where to pick us up from. On top of all this, I checked the hotels.com website, and lo & behold, Mevlana was advertising 2 spare economy rooms (which is what we had booked) vacant for that very night. On return from our tour we were given a room in Mevlana Hotel which was what we had expected, not the dog box we were given on our 1st night. We booked under a 'pay now, no refund available' deal through hotels.com, which may have been our mistake. I could not recommend Mevlana Boutique to anyone.
