#### Go scuba diving around coral reefs and fascinating shipwrecks and swim in the natural pools that adorn the spectacular beaches of this port town.

A popular weekend getaway for Recife locals, Ipojuca has some of the most stunning and pristine beaches in Brazil. It is a small port city with crystal-clear ocean water, excellent coral reefs and the iconic Porto de Galinhas Beach, often considered the country’s best. Relax in this serene and unspoiled hub of beaches.

To learn about the region’s ecology and conservation efforts, visit the Hippocampus Project Office. Inspect the tanks full of colourful fish and crabs in this intriguing site, which has an objective of saving sea horses from extinction.

Work on your tan with a trip to the beach in this hot and humid destination. The dry season runs from August through March. Indulge in such water sports as canoeing and boating at the Maracaípe Beach, where a river meets the Atlantic Ocean. Enjoy the stunning vista of a mangrove and the river delta at Maracaípe Point.

Among the main beaches in the region is Cupé Beach, which is 2.8 miles (4.5 kilometres) long. Unwind in the shade of a palm tree and swim in the natural pools of water. Look down at the fish swimming around your feet in the transparent ocean.

Natural pools can also be found at Muro Alto Beach, which is known for its immense network of coral reefs. Go scuba diving around the shipwrecks off Serrambi Beach.

Stay at some of the many hotels that line the bays and range from affordable pousadas to exclusive resorts. Note that the region is home to one of northeastern Brazil’s major harbors, the modern Suape Port.

You can find the city in the state of Pernambuco in the northeastern pocket of Brazil. Fly to the Recife International Airport and drive south for 45 miles (72 kilometres) to arrive here in roughly 90 minutes. Get around the small town centre on foot and reach the beaches via tour operators, taxis and coaches.
