![I'm not sure I want to share this tip because it's such a perfectly kept secret, but in the teeny, remote "town" of Reykir (there's really almost nothing there), is a little hostel that was nearly empty while I was there. Behind the hostel are two natural hot spring-fed pools on the edge of the ocean. Really basic accommodation, but there's a full kitchen and the pools are worth the stay. "This property was the highlight of my Icelandic experience! It had the most beautiful, scenic location, super remote with a beautiful sea front view. I saw the northern lights 3 times from my room was an unreal experience. The place was so clean, quiet and cozy and the owners were so lovely and helpful when needed. The location is around 20 mins drive from the town so shopping and groceries were needed as it’s quite remote and the road there was a bit scary (I was there in peak winter so it was icy) but it was soo worth it. Location was very rural so I was close to the area to see seals and horses. Will never forget my time here ❤️"

"I booked this place because of the breakfast only to find out after booking it that there was no breakfast in the winter. Check in is at the bar and the rooms are up stairs. The room was clean and small. I got a single. The water smells of sulfur. These things happen. There isn’t anything close by so I had dinner in Hvammstangi. "

"Comfortable room, shower water pressure is not very high but at least it's hot. Hotel is very nice and has good breakfast and dinner in the restaurant. Also a good location to see the aurora if the sky is clear, as there's great visibility in all directions!"
