Wander through fragrant eucalyptus forests to a grove of cool-temperate rainforest, which frames a tumbling waterfall hidden in Peoples Park.

Hogarth Falls is the star attraction of Peoples Park in Strahan. Follow the easy hiking trail that meanders through a pocket of ancient forest and you’ll be rewarded with magnificent views of the waterfall. Mossy rocks and the soft fronds of man ferns enclose the leaping waters, while temperate rainforest trees form the canopy above. Listed as one of Tasmania’s top short walks, the stroll to Hogarth Falls is a great way to experience Strahan’s lush surrounding vegetation.

Begin your stroll through the park at the Hogarth Falls trailhead. Make your way along the path and take in your surroundings. Peoples Park is a great example of Tasmania’s superb forests. You’ll pass through eucalyptus woodland, which features tall gum trees and a variety of grasses. See if you can spot where the foliage changes to temperate rainforest. This pristine grove contains a variety of rainforest species, such as myrtle, sassafras and leatherwood. If you visit in late winter, you might see the trees in bloom with thousands of tiny flowers. In springtime, wildflowers grow amid the grassy woodland areas.

As you walk, you’ll see a collection of interpretive signs that have been colourfully decorated by local schoolchildren. Read the children’s reflections and learn about the local connection to the park.

The pristine cascades of Hogarth Falls mark the end of the trail. Approaching the falls, you’ll hear the delightful sound of water as it tumbles over the well-worn rocks. Breathe in the scent of the rainforest as you admire the pretty falls. Take photographs of the leaping waters or peer into the clear pool. Return to the trailhead via the same pathway.

Hogarth Falls are located at the end of the 0.7-mile (1.2-kilometre) trail in Peoples Park. Access the park via the Esplanade or extend your walk by strolling from the Foreshore Walking Track. Find the park between Strahan Wharf and Regatta Point. There are no facilities in the park. Public restrooms are located in Strahan Wharf. Bring snacks and drinking water for your visit to Hogarth Falls.
