The room was dirty, pillows and blankets were stained, bathroom was dirty and small, the hairbrush that is left in the bathroom for guests had hair on it from a random person, you can tell it wasn’t clean. The humidity was very bad, stepping on the floor made your feet wet and the towels and bed sheets were moist, there was also a very strong smell of humidity when entering the room. We had a unfortunate situation where a purse and passport was left on a bus that continued on. Within a less than a 6 hour period the owner got it figured out, made arrangements and got the passport with all its money, credits cards, etc. back to us. The owners of the homestay were incredibly friendly and have a lovely family. The family was very helpful in providing information on things to do in Ninh Binh, helped us to rent a scooter, and arranged a very inexpensive taxi ride to the trainstation. We also enjoyed a great game of Uno with their children. If you are just wanting to check into your room and get some quiet time, then they also completely respect your privacy. The views from the windows are incredible and you can see Hang Mua and idyllic rice paddies from your room. The home stay also offers a great free breakfast included in the room rate and has a very good lunch and dinner menu at affordable rates. Unlike another hotel in the area, they were able to get our laundry done in less than 12 hours and had it completely dry (some hotels dry by air with mixed results due to the sometimes rainy climate). In summary, you can't go wrong booking here. The value is very good and you get the benefit of dealing with a wonderful family who seem to genuinely care about making sure their guests enjoy their visit to Ninh Binh. We booked a room here for one night based on all the positive reviews, but our experience was so disappointing that we left on the same day! We could never imagine spending a night there... The first impression was really bad as the girl at the reception didn't even greet us with a simple 'hello' or a smile upon our arrival. The room itself was small and EXTREMELY dirty. The bed sheets were damp, and the mattress was literally as hard as a rock. I've slept on many hard beds, but this one was next level. The window was obscured by some metal fixtures, giving the room a prison-like atmosphere. Additionally, the room was infested with mosquitoes, likely due to the fact that all the doors were wide open when we arrived. They do have bikes for rent at 40,000 đồng each. A choice of western breakfast such as banana pancake or beef pho. They do offer a variety of food in their menu for a price. They do have beautiful view from the rooftop but it is a tricky climb up there. You need to be quite careful with the narrow width of the steps and pull your body through a hole to get from the third floor to the rooftop. As for cleanlinesses, it took them less than 45 min to prepare our room as when we arrived, the guests from our room had to move to a different room. The air conditioner in our room worked really well. The whole family are helpful and accommodating, and made my 3-night stay extremely comfortable. The house looks onto Mua Caves, reached in 10 minutes on foot (a little longer to walk to the top! but well worth the effort) and they have bicycles and motorbikes to rent to go further afield. They let us check in early, did our laundry, and helped us get bicycles. Room was spacious and clean and had a good shower and air con. Bed is very firm. Food was excellent and good value for money. Hang Mua is a peaceful village close to many things to do.
