"Trash left in the room from previous guest. Notified front desk. The fold out couch bedding not in the room. Called the front desk, asked for sheets/pillows. They said they’d bring it down. 45 minutes later, they hadn’t shown. I walk to the front desk and asked about the sheets. The attendant said, “Oh, I’m sorry. I forgot.” They went to go get the sheets and came back thirty seconds later. Breakfast tables were sticky. The poor lady tending breakfast was trying her best, there were just too many people trying to eat in a cramped area. She was sweet. We stayed there two days. There was just a lot to be desired."

"Room still wasn’t ready when we tried to check in at 5. The waitress was horrible at her job. They charge for parking which is ridiculous considering how much money it costs to even stay there. The breakfast you have to pay extra for was gross."

"This hotel BLEW ME AWAY! It's gorgeous, clean, staffed by lovely human beings, centrally located, historical, full of charm, and get this—they offer a free breakfast that is the best: eggs, sausage, muffins, oatmeal, cereals, breads/toast, and fresh coffee and tea 24/7!! The outside alone is worth a visit, but when you step inside it's like you've gone back in time to 1898, but with all the modern conveniences. It's also located right next to the historical & fun Durango > Silverton train depot from where the train going back & forth between those cities departs. TAKE IT! Just know you'll here the sound of the steam engine whistle every morning at about 8am-ish, again at 9am (departures), then once more w/ the return trains around 5:30pm & 6:30pm. I'm VERY sensitive to noise & thought it'd bother me, but nope, I LOVED IT. Made me feel like I was in the Old West & I actually looked forward to it. The hotel is in a PERFECT spot at the south end of town on the main strip (not loud, very quiet). This location enables you to just pop out of the hotel & walk up one side of the street as far as you want, then back down the other side. And along the way enjoy dozens of cafes, restaurants, stores, trinket shops, and specialty stores. I WISH I COULD MOVE TO DURANGO., GO! And stay at the General Palmer. We're going back! Shout out to AMAZING STAFFERS: Travis, Chandler, Caleb, Lucia, and Oxana. WE LOVE YOU GUYS! (Just 1 minor negative: no microwave, no fridge.) Rooms are AMAZING!"

"This property is showing its age. The carpet when you walk in from the main parking area is matted its so dirty. The door to our room didn't shut properly, the bathroom door was coming apart, the trim around our room was all torn up. The AC remote didnt work and the unit never shut off even though we set it on auto. The breakfast was passable, but was on par with much cheaper hotels. We paid a premium for Memorial Day weekend, and at almost 300 per night, it needed to be much nicer."

"This was a great place! Our family had plenty of space and the kitchen was well stocked and organized. We didn’t really take advantage of the basement room…but it would be great for teens or kiddos to have fun while the adults are enjoying upstairs."

"This was our first time visiting the property and the Durango area. We were fortunate to experience great weather almost our entire stay and there were fantastic views from every window in the home. Finding the property was easy and the only glitch in getting there was the access-coded, subdivision gate prior to reaching the home. I could not find where the code was delivered in advance in the emails sent. The good news is that upon emailing the question, it was promptly provided. Frustration averted! Also, be prepared for Deer Trail, the last 1.5 miles, before the home as it is a wash-boarded gravel road. Rough. The home is perched on a ridge that is around 7,800' in elevation and provided commanding views of the La Plata mountains. A little breezy at times in the afternoon but the view changes on the mountains by the hour. Cool, dry air so bring plenty of moisturizer, lip balm and sunscreen. In town, which sits at about 6,500', was always warmer than at the home. One thing that was not clearly detailed that does make a difference was that the Master Bedroom suite was locked and inaccessible. The correct number of available bedrooms, bathrooms and sleeping capacity was accurately advertised but the true Master suite, the whole end of the downstairs level, was not.I would recommend booking a trip on the Durango to Silverton steam train which was a long, but very scenic day if you ride the train up and back. Also Mesa Verde National Park is breathtaking. Thanks!"
