What is the best area to stay in Hikosan?
The best area to stay in Hikosan is around the base of Mount Hiko, particularly near the Hikosan Jingu shrine complex.

This area offers the most convenient access to the spiritual and natural attractions of Hikosan. You'll find a few traditional guesthouses and ryokans located within the forested slopes, providing a peaceful retreat. The main path leading up to the Hikosan Jingu's various halls and the Copper Torii is easily accessible from here.

When is the best time to go to Hikosan?

Spring offers pleasant weather for outdoor activities like hiking and sightseeing, with comfortable temperatures and clear skies. The cherry blossoms, known as sakura, typically bloom from late March to early April, adding a beautiful touch to the mountain landscapes. This period is particularly good for those who enjoy photography and nature.

Autumn is also an excellent time to visit, as the mountain foliage transforms into stunning shades of red, orange, and gold. The cooler temperatures make it ideal for exploring the hiking trails and visiting the historic shrines without the summer humidity.
