Our villas are professionaly cleaned by our maid twice a week and due to the situation recently extra attention is being given at details, especially at check in and check out. About Christina Villas: Christina Villas was a project completed in 2003\. Thanassis Paspalakis, founder and Director of Zakros Tours did see the obvious, that Pendamodi, the village where he was born could be, due to beauty and location, an ideal place for alternative and high quality tourism. He created a complex of 11 superb villas, featuring one of Crete's best properties. As a specialist in tourism Thanassis, did understand what his guests would want from their distinctive vacations. Our long experience in “philoxenia” \[hospitality in ancient and modern Greek\] is always there for our guests. Our will is to treat our guests mostly as family friends coming on vacation, rather than a client as meant by hospitality sciences. Christina complex, was named after the mother of Thanassis, an adorable woman, married to Manolis Paspalakis, owner of the Kafeneion founded in 1930 and renovated by his grand-grand son Giorgos in 2005. Coast/beach and eating outdoors: 15 km from the famous Ammoudara Beach (15 minutes drive). Ammoudara Beach is 6 kms long and is famous among locals and foreigners for its thin golden sand. It has parts with a lot of people, while others with few, also it has restaurants, cafes, water sports, beach bars. Another choice near, recommended from our guests is Lygaria , a more quiet and family beach, located at a gulf, suitable for windy days. Amnissos, Karteros and Paliokastro beaches are also within short drive distances. There are two traditional 'kafenions' in Pendamodi one of which also serves traditional 'mezes', Giorgos' 'Mezedopoleion', a mix of Cretan cafe and taverna, highly recommended by our guests for his hospitality and dishes. Additionally, a selection of brilliant local taverns can be found within a few kilometers in the surrounding villages and the Christina complex modern snack café is always an alternative and on site Special interest holidays / Service: Courses on Greek History and Literature can take place on special demand by the candidate doctor of Philology, Adonis Paspalakis. It proved and ideal location to do this. We drove as far west as Rethimno and as far east as Agios Nikolaos and south to Matala. The level of customer service we received from Adonis and Giirgios both before we arrived and during our stay was superb. As we hired the villa we got a discount on a hire car (Zakros Tours) which turned out to be the most hassle free car hiring we have ever had. They do offer to show you the route to the villa on arrival at the airport. We would recommend you take them up on the offer. Le jardin et la piscine sont très agréables et a usage unique du locataire. La villa est à 50m d'une épicerie et de 2 tavernes où on mange très bien pour pas cher. A 20 min de la plage et d'Hermaklion. C'est un bon endroit pour visiter le centre du pays (1h30 de Rethymnon, Agios Nikolaos ou Matala). Attention toutefois au GPS qui peut emmener sur des routes inexistantes!! Femme de ménage qui passe 2 fois par semaine. ##### christophe d. George kindly met us at the airport to show us to our hire car (hired through Zakros tours at a very competitive rate) and then to Pendamodi. The team did all they could to ensure we had a wonderful holiday and with the great local taverna and food and the local shop we couldn't have wanted more. Die Begrüßung war herzlich. Giorgo im Kafenion erkannte uns gleich wieder, im kleinen Laden konnten wir gleich die nötigsten Sachen einkaufen - sofern sie nicht ohnehin schon im Begrüßungskorb enthalten waren. Großes Lob auch an Manolis, unsere Hinweise und Anregungen vom letzten Jahr wurden tatsächlich beachtet, so daß nun u.a. auch neue Messer und Eierbecher in der Küche vorhanden waren. Tabs für die kleine Spülmaschine lagen bereit. Das ist Service! Das Kochevent war wieder ein Erlebnis - diesmal mit Kaninchen. Wer sich einfach mal zurücklehnen und echt griechisch bekochen lassen will, sollte das unbedingt buchen. Ansonsten gilt alles wie im vergangenen Jahr, wenn man keinen touristischen Hotelurlaub sucht, sondern ruhig (oder auch mal lebhaft) Urlaub mit Einheimischen verbringen möchte, dann ist man hier richtig. There was everything that we needed including a bbq. The maid service was exceptional with clean linen more often then we have had in other stays. Gaben wichtige Informationen über Land und Leute. Das Haus selbst unterliegt einem Renovierungsrückstand der dringend beseitigt gehört. So sollten die Duschen mit mit vernünftigen Wandhaltern ausgestattet werden ebenso wären feste Duschwände sehr hilfreich. Im unteren Bad ist die Kabine zu klein, im oberen ist gar keine Duschwandhalterung vorhanden. Der Satelittenempfang ist zwar international ausgerichtet aber an deutschsprachigen Sender empfängt man nur einen und das Schlecht. Satelitt ASTRA wäre hier hilfreich. Türgriffe und Scharniere sollten geölt und festgezogen werden. Ein Windschutz im Garten könnte ebenso sehr hilfreich sein. Das sind die Dinge mir spontan einfallen und leicht erledigt werden könnten. Die Vergrößerung der Abwasserrohre um mitteleuropäischen Standard zu haben, wo das Toilettenpapier mit über das Abwasser entsorgt wird, wäre sehr schön, liegt aber nicht in der Hand des Hausbesitzers. Pendamodi is a perfect setting to explore Crete. We found some fantastic local restaurants within a short drive and everything we needed was available in the Village....even a local hostelry that served excellent local food. Unusually for rural Villas this one is serviced regularly and we found George and Elizabeth a fantastic resource who ensured our stay was everything we hoped it would be. A personal thanks to you both for your attentiveness. I have no hesitation in recommending this Villa for a relaxing break in the heart of a beautiful island. Aber es ist eine Reise in eine andere Welt. War man eben noch von lärmenden Touristen mit Koffern umgeben und schlängelte sich kurz durch überfüllte Straßen mit Geschäften, Restaurants und Straßenhändlern in Heraklion, findet man sich auf einmal in einem typisch griechischen Dorf wieder mit einem kleinen Dorfladen, der alles hat, was man wirklich braucht und zwei Kafeneons, vor dem die Männer sitzen, Kaffee trinken und das ruhige Leben genießen - und in dem man beim zweiten Besuch schon das Gefühl hat, Stammgast zu sein. Haus, Garten und Pool sind gepflegt, sauber und werden alle paar Tage gereinigt. Vermieter und Personal erfüllen gern Wünsche, wenn noch etwas fehlt. Alle Zimmer haben Klimaanlage, Waschmaschine, Herd, Mikrowelle, Kaffeemaschine usw. sind vorhanden, ebenso ein kleiner Geschirspüler (evtl. ein paar Tabs mitbringen, wenn man keine dort kaufen will). Der Fernseher empfängt Hotbird 13°, wo man außer ZDF nicht viele deutsche Programme findet - wenn das wichtig ist. DVD Player und Playstation 2 sind auch vorhanden. Wir haben die Möglichkeit genutzt, einen griechischen Koch ins Haus zu bestellen, mit dem wir dann ein tolles Rinderstifado inkl. Salat und Dessert gekocht haben. Dabei hat der Vermieter alles schön zum Mitschreiben übersetzt. Es war ein toller Abend mit sehr interessanten Gesprächen! Man sollte auf jeden Fall das Kafeneon am Ende der Straße besuchen. Es gibt zwar keine Speisekarte, der Wirt füllt aber schnell den Tisch mit kalten und warmen Speisen. Sehr lecker und alles frisch zubereitet. Wenn man Glück hat, wird auch der Grill angeworfen und Souvlaki gegrillt. Man kann gern Wünsche äußern, was man am nächsten Tag gern essen würde! Wer eines der Ferienhäuser in Pendamodi mietet, sollte nicht nur einfach eine Unterkunft suchen, sondern den Vorsatz haben, als Tourist ein kretisches Dorf zu erleben. Natürlich kann man einfach im Garten und Haus bleiben und ansonsten mit dem Auto die Insel erkunden. Das wäre dann aber nur der halbe Spaß! Die 9 Tage waren viel zu schnell vorbei. Wir planen auf jeden Fall, nach Pendamodi zurückzukehren. Gern auch für einen längeren Urlaub! ##### Rene V. We loved the peaceful, rural setting and the stunning scenery in the area. The villa was all we could wish for and Adonis and his team were both professional and very kind. We enjoyed the warm and friendly welcome and numerous tasty meals at Georgos' kafenion just two minutes' walk away. Adonis also provided our hire car: the service was excellent and when a small fault occurred the car was replaced very promptly. A wonderful holiday in Pentamodi... Nous avons été accueillis par Giorgos à notre arrivée à l'aéroport d'Héraklion, que nous avons suivi en voiture jusqu'à la villa. C'est un service extrêmement appréciable car le réseau routier crètois est assez chaotique et les panneaux pas toujours claires... La villa est globalement bien entretenue et globalement bien équipée, bien que peu lumineuse au rez de chaussée (contrairement à ce qui apparaît sur les photos). En effet, nous étions contraint d'allumer la lumière en pleine journée. Par contre, la villa reste très fraîche, ce qui est appréciable lorsque la température extérieure est élevée. Le seul point dérengeant, mais qui doit se retrouver dans la plupart des habitations crètoises, est la présence incessante de fourmis qui sautent sur la moindre occasion pour investir plan de travail et placards de la cuisine et s'attaquer à toutes les denrées alimentaires. Du coup, on finit par tout renger au frigo, même le pain... Pour résumer, c'est une très bonne location si l'on recherche des vacances au calme et au soleil et que l'on n'a pas peur de faire un peu de kilomètres pour visiter. Toutes les personnes que nous avons eu l'occasion de rencontrer étaient très disponibles et discrètes (Giorgos passe faire l'entretien de la piscine plusieurs fois par semaine) et nous ont donné de bons conseils. Als erstes vorweg, Kreta ist eine tolle Insel mit mehr als netten, zuvorkommenden Menschen und tollen Stränden. Eine durchweg Klasse Küche in vielen schön gelegenen Tavernen. Aber warum nur ein Stern? Das Haus und der vom Vermieter gebuchte Mietwagen, waren einfach nur schlecht! Auf Grund der Anfang Juli andauernden Probleme in Griechenland, bat mich der Vermieter um Barzahlung des Restbetrages. Das sollte kein Thema sein, also habe ich Bar gezahlt. Hinzu kam noch das Geld für ein Auto, welches man als solches wohl nicht bezeichnen sollte. Ein dreckiger, stinkender Hyundai für 2 Wochen?! Naja, die Autos auf diesem Parkplatz sahen alle so aus, also erstmal Augen zu und durch. Wir haben ja sicher die Möglichkeit Sagrotan zu kaufen. Wir kauften in der Folge noch so einiges, um uns die 2 Wochen Urlaub schön zu machen. Als wir in Pentamodi ankamen, war das Haus noch nicht gereinigt, also nahmen wir eine Stunde in einer Taverne Platz. Es war mittlerweile Nachmittag. Im Haus angekommen wurde ausgepackt, sich umgeschaut etc., was man halt so macht. Durch das Auto schon von der ersten Euphorie befreit, wunderten wir uns über Geruch und Zustand der so genannten Villa. Durchgelegene Matrazen waren noch das kleinste Problem. Eine komplett Nässe und teilweise mit Wasser gefüllte Luftmatratze des Vormieters war unter der Treppe verstaut worden. Ist wohl beim Putzen nicht aufgefallen. Küche, Möbel, einfach alles ist verwöhnt und riecht. Teilweise sind die Schränke defekt. Auf Hinweis an den Vermieter ist dieses gerade erst passiert und konnte noch nicht repariert werden. Auch in den nächsten 2 Wochen nicht. Wir haben am Montag im Supermarkt Tischdecken und Plastikgeschirr gekauft, um zumindest frühstücken zu können. Gefreut hatten wir uns auf einen Urlaub mit viel kochen und frischen Marktzutaten. Hier sicher nicht. Nächster Punkt, es sollte ein Ort der Ruhe sein, um Kraft für die Arbeit zu erlangen. Weit gefehlt. Nervende schreiende Nachbarn, aber für die kann keiner was. Hunde bellten jeden Tag, den ganzen Tag. Einen Abendspaziergang konnten wir garnicht machen, da überall aggressive freilaufende Hunde herumliefen. Wir waren mit 2 Kindern (11 und 14) da. Die trauten sich allein nicht mal zum 100m entfernten Kiosk. Da der Platz hier für eine ausreichende Bewertung nicht reicht, schließe ich mit dem Fazit: Urlaub auf Kreta Ja! La location de voiture a été parfaite, une personne nous attendait à l'aéroport D'Héraklion et nous a même amenée jusqu'a la maison. Des conseils de visites intéressants nous ont été prodigués par le loueur. La « taverna » du village est excellente, l’épicière, ouverte quasiment en permanence, offre le minimum nécessaire. When we saw Christina Villa we decided to give it a try. The villa is fantastic, very private and the villages were marvelous. The people were very friendly, and the food at the taverna was really scrumptious. We would definately go back and recommend it for a truely relaxing holiday. Manolis is the owner and couldn't do enough for us, he is a truely lovely , genuine person. The villa was to a high standard with good facilities, plenty of space and privacy. The property had a lovely garden incorporating a swimming pool, BBQ area and good sitting areas to accomodate those who enjoy the sun or those who prefer a shaded area. Pool and Villa cleaning was carried out on a regular basis by friendly, and helpful staff to a good standard. On arrival we received a warm welcome from Adonis and his family and they remained helpful and available throughout our stay. We enjoyed good local cuisine in Pendmodi as well as great restaurants in the surrounding villages, all to a high standard at affordable prices. For those who are looking for a quiet realxing break in a traditional village not too far from the capital Iraklion( Heraklion) and the major attractions we would highly recommend Christina Villa's. ##### Jayne S. We had a fantastic stay in this luxurious villa back in Sept. The facilities were great and the owners were brilliant. The villa is owned by a local family who take real pride in their work and hospitality - they went to great trouble to ensure we had a good stay - advising us on local beaches, site seeing, restaurants etc. We even got a competitive car hire deal through Zakros Tours. We really enjoyed chatting to both Georgious (?) & Adonis about life in Crete, which gave us further insight into the culture. The local taverna (also owned by the same family) cooked up some delish dishes. This (coming from a fussy eater) is not to be snuffed at!! Situated in the hills south of Heraklion, there are lots of places to explore nearby & excellent tavernas and cafes. The owners & managers of the villa were extraordinarily generous with their time & very thoughtful--so much so that I felt badly about the amount of time of theirs we consumed. And what's more, they can help you rent a car, which you'll need. In the village is a lovely cafe/taverna with \*excellent\* food, and the owners were very thorough to point us to lots of other great places to eat & visit.
