#### Explore this secluded group of islets in the Lofoten archipelago to enjoy its wealth of heritage architecture, scenic boat tours and fresh seafood.

The tiny fishing village of Henningsvær spreads across several islands on Austvågøya’s southern coast. It was accessible to the rest of the Lofoten archipelago only by boat until the early 1980s, sparing the community from modern development through the 20th century. Today see its stunning collection of historic architecture. Stroll along the waterfront promenades lining the two main islands and photograph the huddled seaside cottages facing a lacework of ship’s masts and rigging.

Appreciate Henningsvær’s beautifully preserved architecture from one of the cafés along the narrow channel between the two main islands. Sample fresh, locally produced food, including cod fillets and roe. Warm up with a hot coffee and scan the Vestfjord horizon dotted with small islands and a cluster of mountain peaks to the north. Climb Mount Vågakallen, the tallest of these.

Get another perspective of the stunning landscape with a charter boat tour through the fjord. Travel by exhilarating speedboat or relax on a cruise around the archipelago. You might spot sea eagles circling overhead, occasionally diving to pick up fish. Pass through the narrow mouth of Trollfjord to explore further into the Raftsundet strait. Dive or snorkel off the stunning coastline in the cool waters of Vestfjord.

Back on land, continue your experience of Henningsvær’s local culture with a visit to the KaviarFactory, an intriguing art gallery housed within a converted industrial waterfront building. Tour the Galleri Lofotens Hus, which exhibits works by Norwegian painters. On the island of Heimøya, see the modern A-frame design of Henningsvær Church, which replaced an earlier chapel built in 1852.

Access Henningsvær via bridges linking the fishing village to the southern tip of Austvågøya. The nearest airport is in Svolvær, about a 40-minute drive away. Reach Henningsvær from different areas of the Lofoten archipelago by bus. The area has hotel and cottage accommodation. Visit the village in winter to see the magnificent northern lights or in summer to experience the midnight sun.
