It is private, though not completely soundproof as we could hear the tenants in the main building from time to time. Blackheath is also far enough from the world but also close to major attractions like the Three Sisters in Katoomba, which is about 15 minutes drive away. Sadly our room had a lot of road noise which we weren't used to and the bed creaked and groaned which led to two sleepless nights.
