Sorry to hear you were cold. We have removed all electric blankets from our property following an incident of misuse when a bed was badly scorched. We will not risk people's lives knowing that some cannot be trusted to turn the blankets off before getting into bed. We are glad that you enjoyed your stay apart from that.

Due to our exceptionally dry summer, we are allowing the grass to grow longer than we would usually do to give it a chance to recover from the drought when we were not able to water it so it does look a bit messy at present.

We are sorry to hear that the can opener was missing from your Apartment, we do wish you had mentioned it during your stay as we do provide can openers and were not aware that yours was missing. This has now been rectified for the benefit of future guests so thank you for bringing it to our attention. We are not sure what information you needed about our Motel, we have found room compendiums impossible to keep up to date with the ever-changing restaurants, bars, tours etc. available in Paihia and we are available to answer any questions throughout the day, most days we do not close our office until we go to bed so we are always available if needed and very happy to share our local knowledge with our guests if asked.

How very disappointing to receive such a lukewarm review when we had gone to so much trouble to accommodate your request for the twin bedroom to be rearranged and the beds made up as a King size bed. This involved the purchase of a special strap to hold the beds together, moving some heavy furniture during the busiest week of the season (which is why the room rates were so high at the time of your stay) and moving it back again after your 2 night stay with not so much as an acknowledgement of our hard work on your behalf, much less any thanks. After this lack of appreciation for our efforts we shall not be rearranging our rooms in future. Our wifi is free and unlimited for our guests even though their old devices often slow the connection down for us and other guests. Until the fibre cables are available in our area we cannot offer a higher speed or better connection. We are glad you enjoyed the views and that you found us welcoming, we would have been happy to discuss any problems you had with your accommodation during your stay.

Most of our guests find us very approachable and we cannot understand how you formed such a negative opinion of us based on a very brief conversation upon arrival, the only conversation we had during your 4 night stay. Had you asked, we or our lovely cleaner would have been happy to advise where the spare soaps and shampoos were. Constructive feedback is always welcome but it is much easier for us to address any concerns during the stay than after the event.

Thank you for your feedback. We have addressed and rectified the issues raised and apologise for the spiders webs behind the curtain and the ripped curtain which has now been replaced. The carpets are not old or worn, we found one small stain on the carpet (under the sofa) and that will be removed when the carpets are professionally cleaned at the end of the season. We could not advise the problem with the Wi-Fi in advance of your stay as we had no internet or phones and no way of knowing when the service would be restored. Thankfully, all is now working again and we are able to give our guests free and unlimited Wi-Fi access from all rooms. Although it may have appeared that we had empty rooms during your stay, several rooms were pre-booked for dates that overlapped your stay dates and were therefore unavailable to be offered to you, with or without an additional charge. As you said yourself, you chose an Apartment knowing it did not have a view (this is reflected in the price), at the time of booking we had Ocean View rooms available for the dates of your stay which you may have preferred to the Poolside Ground Level Apartment you booked. We are sorry you considered our Motel inferior to the other accommodation you stayed at, we cannot comment on the price point as each area offers prices based on the accommodation available in that area and the seasonality of the area so prices differ from one region to another. Thank you for your kind words regarding the owners, we do try our best to help our guests to make the most of their stay and hope you enjoyed your visit to New Zealand.

Thank you for your review. The weather in the town was exactly the same as it was here, everywhere was damp after several days of rain and high humidity. Fans are provided in all our accommodation units, fly screens are rare in New Zealand as, unlike Australia, we do not need them most of the time. Unfortunately, the wet weather (for which we are not responsible) does tend to flush mosquitos out of the surrounding trees but good repellents are available in the local supermarket and we provide insecticide sprays in all rooms. The owners are always available, we live here! If you did not want to venture out of your room in the rain there is a phone and the number to dial to speak to us at any time. We do not make house calls to continue our welcoming chat, we respect the privacy of our guests but we are always happy to see anyone who braves the elements to come to our reception office and appreciate feedback given in person rather than anonymously after departure. Just a couple of minor points for future guests, all of our "double" beds are in fact Sleepyhead Hotelier Queen size, and we are exactly 4kms (or 4 minutes drive) from Paihia town centre.
