House built in 1901 so has uneven floors, but you couldn’t ask for a more charming place. So clean accommodations and everything you need to make your stay pleasurable. I would recommend and will be booking it again!!

Great location! Picture-perfect sunsets!
Great little cottage in the perfect location! We got there just in time to see the most beautiful sunset right over the river! Stunning! There were several little quirky things about the cottage because of its age, but in our opinion, they just made it even more charming. There was a problem with the Wifi apparently because of the massive storm that hit the area earlier in the summer, but we made due without. I would definitely recommend!

Adorable!
Very cute and clean! Had family come over for lunch and had everything we needed, dishes, grill.. etc. Great sitting space for everyone outside and indoors. It was so nice to be able to host a get together for everyone, this place was such a blessing! Thank you Julie!

Crooked cabin is comfy too
The river cabin is very very clean, and has everything you need for a stay. Great communication with the nice owner! Very comfy bed and couch, seating around the dining room table for plenty as well. Yes, the floors tilt in many directions and the ceiling is low in the back part of the kitchen.. it is a river cabin built in 1901 after all, but very tall 6'+ may need to watch out, but wasn't a problem. Just have your sea legs on and enjoy the unique stay! The living room, swing, and picnic table views to the river are great! And the bed is level and very, very comfy. If we find ourselves back in this area I wouldn't hesitate to book again.

My daughter and I loved the locat on, on the bankd of the Mississippi, the quiet atmosphere and the cozy cot tage. We wish our schedule would have allowed us to s tay longer.

Convenient location and view was nice. Place was clean overall, but cluttered, Traffic on road below noisy. Cabin was musty smelling. I realize the place was built some time ago, but really needs better maintenance - some window sash held shut / down with sticks of wood, some wouldn’t open at all to let air in (and air conditioner was so noisy I couldn’t sleep with it on), some crack out windows didn’t work at all, one blind in living room broke so we couldn’t open it, electricity would never pass an inspection (was running all over the walls to connect to outlets and lights), floors so uneven it felt like you were in a fun house with the floors moving up and down as you walked. Perhaps some people find some of this country charming, but it certainly wasn’t what I expected for the 4.7 out of 5 rating it had. The description did indicate the internet wasn’t totally reliable, however it never connected at all for the two nights we were there, and we had to change all the TV settings ourselves to get any regular (like NBC) type channels. Sorry, but this is the truth.

Pleasant stay along the River in Hamilton
This cozy cottage is well furnished with many attractive touches. There are also games, DVD movies and books for all ages. There is a dining room table, which we also used to play games on. The recliner chair and platform rocker and couch were most comfortable. There was an air conditioner in the dining room. and for cool days a space heater in the living room. We were well pleased with our stay.

Overall, I believe the host does their best to dress the place up, but it is an older cabin, and the biggest issue I had was it felt and smelled like a musty grandparent house equipped with flea market furniture. That being said, you will have everything you need, and you can appreciate that! REALLY, you can! It was clean, with hot water, a fridge, a decent bed, and clean sheets, but sleep at the foot due to the slope in the house. There are a ton of good DVDs because there are three tv channels, so we watched old favorites, which was great. It was like a walk back in time to grandmother's house, and all in all, we learned to appreciate the little cabin. It reminded us of where we once lived many moons ago, but the musty smell was our biggest regret. Definitely a hundred-dollar-a-night stay in this world.

I've never noticed the musty smell. After your review I invited neighbors over to see if they noticed the smell & only 1 person said there was a very faint smell. She also mentioned, if I hadn't said anything about it she wouldn't have picked up on it. The cabin is old...a 1901 as a matter of fact. Yes the floors have settled & not all the furniture was bought at the same store. I keep it clean, well stocked & as comfortable as I can. Along the river & at the bottom of a hill, the internet & the T.V. services consider this area REMOTE. I put in city water instead of the well water to make things better for all. Sorry you felt you had a bad experience.

Adorable, peaceful cabin
I enjoyed my stay immensely. The property owner was great to work with and the cabin is perfect for a peaceful weekend getaway. I would definitely stay again. Just a ‘heads up’ to any one staying that’s tall, the back door and kitchen ceiling in that area are fairly low. My friend that’s over 6’ had to duck. I’m 5’6” and I did not. The floors are a kinda uneven and wonky but the place is so charming that you quickly get used to it. I loved the close proximity to the river. It was exactly what I needed. Thank you.

This unique house was a great little getaway place. It had everything we needed for cooking, sleeping, and relaxing. Great location to spend time in Nauvoo, Keokuk, Hamilton, Carthage, and other quaint towns near by. Driving the river road was relaxing too.

Great stay for Geode Fest!
The Crooked Cabin was an absolute perfect stay for a weekend at Geode Fest! The location was great. Close enough to a few towns to have access to restaurants and necessities, and still far enough away to be peaceful, quiet, and safe. The cabin is extremely clean and comfortable. The bed was amazingly comfortable! The kitchen was stocked with everything you need to cook! I didn't have an issue with a sulfur smell from the shower as others have mentioned. Shower was great and smelled fine! Plenty of extra blankets, towels, and fans tucked away should you need them. Superb communication with the host! She is friendly, knows the area, and is a kind hearted soul! The cabin grounds are great! The river is right across the street, and you can hear the frogs talking at night. There's a small creek right next to the cabin that you can walk, and find a lot of geodes easily! This will definitely be my go-to lodging whenever I go back to the area!

Lovely comfortable cabin!
We had a wonderful stay at the cozy cabin located right across from the Mississippi River. It was fully stocked with everything to make it feel like home. The floors were a little wonky but that’s what gives it character I mean with the cabin being over 100 years old. We had a wonderful time and will definitely love to stay here again. Loved our stay!
Julie's crooked cabin is just so adorable and cozy! Outside and inside. Located right across from the river, it has beautiful views. One thing that really impressed me is that she goes out of her way to provide every single thing you may need! We just had to get groceries, but heck, she even provides condiments, jellies, sugar, sweeteners, some coffee if you drink it, grill lighters,, wood,, etc.. She let some children of some friends of ours sit on and take pictures with her beautiful horse! We got to go up and take a peek at her beautiful flower garden. We will definitely stay here many more times!

Fall Get Away
What a wonderful place to stay. It is on the Mississippi River with beautiful views. The house was just the right size and very comfortable. The owner was very responsive when we had a question. Very near Nauvoo for sight seeing and not far from Iowa (Fort Madison). We had great weather and enjoyed kicking back and relaxing.

Anniversary getaway
The cabin was much better than a motel. It had all we needed and them some. It was quiet and serene. Beautiful view of the Mississippi. We sat outside on swing and listed to locusts and frogs. Wonderful sunsets!

Cute cabin and a great place to get away from it all
We enjoyed our time at the "Crooked Cabin". Comfortable and clean, it had everything we needed. It's a great place if you just want to get away from everything and kick back and relax (which is what we needed during the current pandemic situation). Sadly, it rained much of the time we were there so we didn't get to enjoy the outdoor spaces much but they are available. It's a beautiful area, right across from the Mississippi River and everything you might need is just a few minutes drive away. The one downside is the parking, which can be a bit tricky, but overall it was a great place to go.

Just what we needed to disconnect and recharge.
Julie's cabin was exactly what we needed for our 5 day getaway from the city. A peacefulness, quite place surrounded by nature and the Old Man river just a few steps away The cabin was very clean and organized, and it has everything you need for your stay, including books about the region, guides of the nearby towns, personal reviews of nearby restaurants, board games, grill, outside sitting, etc. We met Julie a couple of times and she always made sure we had everything we needed to enjoy our stay. She even suggested a couple of hiking spots around the area and interesting places to visit. No surprises regarding the mineral smell of the water, the tilt in some areas of the cabin or the internet - Read the reviews.

The view of the river is wonderful. The area is quiet and peaceful. As noted, there is a sulfur odor to the hot water, but it's not that bad. The cabin was well stocked with necessities, plus games, books, DVDs, and a DVD player. We didn't get rained out and sit around inside, but it could have come in handy!
