As the attacks of the Moors were frequent they decided to build a wall to protect the community and the monks that lived inside. It was this fort that gave origin to the Castle of Guimarães. Later, in the twelfth century, it was in this castle that Dom Afonso Henriques was born. Some years after he would become the first king of Portugal. With the lack of use the castle was degrading. Recently it was recovered and classified as National Monument. It is also considered World Heritage by UNESCO. A place full of history and that was cradle of Portugal. The stay was really good. I was born in Guimarães so i know the area. The location was really good, right in the heart of the city. The apartment was really nice, with everything you need to jave a good thime and the AC was a must. The parking of the city is not ideal but not that bad neither and if you dont have a car or dont need the car too often, you can't find a better location to be in. Close to everything.... shopping, amusement areas, historic places, restaurants, night life... really good. Also, the property manager was really helpful and polite.
