"I was in the area solely to assess whether a suitable region to potentially retire to, and to see what was available for land purchase: thus I just needed basic accomodations...quiet for sleeping...comfortable bed...and clean. Las Cabinas Suenos met those needs. The owner Ledys replied promptly to all my queries and the check-in went smoothly."

"This would be a great stop for a luxury stay over a few days but wasn't worth the cost or distance for a single night stay. The sites of interest are spread out over quite a distance and it's not practical to fit in a visit to more than one of them between check-in and Costa Rica's early sundown. The rooms themselves are nice but not special, the cost/value proposition is really about what sites/activities are included and how easy they make it to book tours on the Hacienda grounds. The food was great but a meal of typical "casados" (the most economical option) ran our family of four $100 CAD. The grounds are beautiful and I would recommend the hacienda to those looking for an all-inclusive, but not a short stay."
"We had a comfy night's stay at Las Espuelas! Good beds, solid shower, tasty breakfast, easy parking, and the folks working were incredibly friendly and helpful. "
"The pool at Borinquen is surrounded by trees and is set kind of in a valley and in the afternoons between 3-5 you could start to see the branches moving on the trees and all of a sudden, you would start to see monkeys swinging from branch to branch. Mama monkeys carrying their baby monkeys, monkeys "fighting", eating, just going about their day. It was absolutely amazing. That was when the spider monkeys came out. If the howler monkeys were there you would hear them coming up the valley around that time and then start seeing them, but they weren't as obvious visually. Either way it was an experience and was so magical. Our teenage kids said it was their best vacation ever. We loved it at Borinquen. Their zipline tour was also very fun! All around a great stay! Worth every penny. FYI - very remote and limited on food so just a few days/nights is a perfect amount of time spent there. "
"Wow what a beautiful hotel! Rio Perdido offers quiet luxury in a very natural environment. The staff were fantastic- nothing was too much trouble and they were so friendly and kind. We stayed n an eat bungalow which was perfect for a couple or family of 3- huge bed, couch to chill on, lots of storage, good size bathroom and cute deck with hammocks where we sat and watched the monkeys playing in the trees.
The food was delicious with lots of choices for all meals and daily specials.
The setting of the hotel is spectacular- set in the forest with lots of areas for hiking and animal spotting. The highlight was the thermal river- I’ve never experienced anything like it- 3 natural thermal pools in the river where the water is fed from the nearby volcano- the hottest pool was like a hot bath! The swimming pools in the hotel are also fed from the river and therefore warm- great for relaxing but a bit small and warm for actual swimming. The hotel offers lots of activities- we did the river tubing which was great fun, and the complimentary hike and yoga( in the beautiful yoga studio in the forest). It’s quite pricey ( converting from GBP) but worth it for a few days of real relaxation in a unique location. "
Buena Vista del Rincon Eco Adventure Park, Hotel & Spa
8/10 Good
"Very nice peoperty. My mountain view cabin was amazing! No view of mountain but there's a great view 2 mins walk away at the Miraflores Restaurant.
Rough road getting in. Hotel arranged a taxi for us to the airport in Liberia, $100 US cash. The road conditions are an issue. I personally wouldn't drive my own vehicle on this path. Hotel should get this paved. It’s not an issue that it's gravel per se, the issue is more like how uneven it is and the hilly parts have pot holes that were reminiscent of my atv jungle tour.
Included breakfast buffet - but had limited options and food wasn't hot. 4/10 both days. My son opted for cereal and he's not a cereal kid.
Fruit was fresh and delicious.
If ordering a coffee at one of the restaurants, ask for milk separately. I like a little milk (still mid brown colour but staff adds too much and makes it a light beige. No longer tastes like coffee).
Miraflores restaurant used a sad, old pineapple slice for my Pina Colado. Had a perfect one at Jaguar Restaurant (next to reception).
Pool is nice but no changeroom/washroom. Closest is at hotel reception. Can easily renovate one of the rooms that's right by the pool. Bar menu at pool is limited and again, without a washroom I wasn't keen to order more than one drink. And only ordered 1 total. Change this "one thing" and sales will increase dramatically"
