In NZ west coast, hostels are for travellers of all ages. So if you are concerned (like I did) about staying with a bunch of college, worry not. The shared bathroom is not that much a hassle. It's like staying at a friend's or relative's place. There is a sink inside each room. The walk from the train station is 10 min. Do bring your own soap, shampoo, and conditioner. Really not a problem... just for knowledge. Everything was there that a hostel should offer and easily accessible. The rooms were freshly painted and clutter free with a sink in each room. There is no closet nor shelving for storing the luggage or hang clothing for longer stays however they might have larger room with storage capacity for extended stays. The laundry facility is superb. The kitchen is large and clean.
