We had an amazing week thanks to Peter. So much is ideal about this place: Perfect location in Firostefani, definitely the town to stay--lots of amazing restaurants but much quieter than Oia or Fira. (Absolutely try Kokkalo--a tiny walk and not caldera views but amazing food and sweet people; and Galini Café for breakfast if you can get in.) Very quiet at night, no clubs nearby. More central than Oia, easy to get around the island from here. (Example: Ten-minute drive/cab ride to Exo Gialos beach and Yalos restaurant--not cheap to rent lounges but well worth it, really nice food.) The host Peter was very nice and helpful. The place is big--bigger than the pictures suggest--with plenty of space for a family to spread out. 80% of the views off the balconies are amazing. Great to have a kitchen to use. Cute little pastry place nearby that knows the house well and delivers breakfast. Right on the main Fira-Oia pathway; you can walk out the front door, turn left, and begin the world-class hike up the caldera toward Oia.
There are a couple of minor things the pictures don't make clear that you should be prepared for. Off the main balcony you look into the back of another house with satellite dishes and wires; the pictures imply more of an unobstructed view. And the place in general could use a bit of a facelift--there are some places where it's chipped and scuffed and the fixtures, appliances and furniture are a little dated.
That surprised us at first, but after a week we had come to love the Morfes House, even with its imperfections. Ideal location on the island, great space to relax, still mostly beautiful views. A warm and kind host; Peter was completely responsive and helpful. By the last few days we were always delighted to return to the house--in fact we spent the better part of a day chilling there, with the patio doors open and the breezes flowing through. A nearly perfect place to stay that is a great base for exploring Santorini.
