Miles of walks from the door and all you need in the village itself, means you can leave the car alone for a week. If you want to explore you have miles of beaches and other interesting villages up and down the coast. ALL ABOUT THE INSIDE: Entrance through the side door into… Kitchen/diner: A very well equipped kitchen with electric oven and hob, fridge freezer and plenty of cupboard storage space and worktops. Kettle and toaster and microwave. Wooden flooring throughout and plenty of room for the dogs. The dining table easily seats 6 and the 2 areas are separated by a feature brick wall. The sideboard has plenty of information on the area, games and a special information and fundraising section for the local seal colony. There is an adjoining utility room with dishwasher and washing machine and plenty of cupboard space for dog food. All the bowls and more are kept here for the dogs. Just off this is the … Shower room: Walk in panelled shower, toilet and sink with cupboard storage, heated towel rail and window opening onto the dunes. Living room: This is at the front of the house, beyond the dining area and stairs and both can be separated off by wooden stable type doors. The room is bright and very nicely decorated. There are 2 sofas, offering plenty of seating for 4, a large coffee table, plenty of books and a 43″ Hisense Smart TV with Freeview / Netflix. Winter evenings can be made cosy with the wood burning stove. Conservatory: Just beyond the living room is the little conservatory, a perfect place to sit on a sunny day if it’s a bit too windy or cool to sit outside. Two lovely armchairs, table and lamps. Back through the living room to the stairs which are a little steep, fitting with the age and style of the cottage, but carpeted and with hand rails both sides. There is the option to slot in one of the 2 supplied Dog G8s at the top or bottom of the stairs. Front bedroom: King size bed in a roomy bedroom with a vanity unit – sink and plenty of storage. Wardrobe, bedside tables and lamps and views over the garden. Curtains have black out thermal linings. Windows have restricted openings but can be opened fully by pressing two buttons. Rear bedroom: Double bed with hanging space and side tables. This is a smaller bedroom but this is made up for by the lovely views across the dunes and big skies. As with the front bedroom the curtains have black out linings and the window has a restricted opening setting that can easily be over-ridden. ALL ABOUT THE OUTSIDE: Courtyard: The front garden is a lovely long courtyard style area with plenty of room for the 2 sets of seating – one a picnic style round bench near the conservatory and the other is armchair seating under a waterproof sun-shade sail. The surface is stone slabs with plenty of plants. The fencing is solid wood all round and 6ft high. Parking is inside the garage and there is space for one car across the garage entrance. Further parking if needed can be advised on booking. Outside tap is located on the dune side of the house (ie at the back) and has one short lead to hose sandy paws and feet and a further long hose which is fed to the front garden. Lovely and cosy with everything you could want and more. Hosts provided a brilliant welcome basket for both humans and our excited dog, Jasper. Great little dog friendly village with a smashing pub and cafe . Would highly recommend recommend to any dog owner who wants a relaxing break but has a dog who loves swimming and meet people. Since we have had our rescue dog, Pluto, it has become a 'tradition' to take him on the holiday he would choose for himself, and the Norfolk seaside is his favourite place! East Ruston Cottages are so wonderfully dog friendly, and Jack's Shack was also comfortable and luxurious. There was such a sense of generosity in the cottage, and we appreciated our welcome basket. The garden was beautifully designed and dog proof, even for Pluto who is well known as an escape artist. The location is particularly special. The location couldn't be better with direct access to the dunes - which was great for our nervous rescue dog and the humans loved it too! It was also very close to the village centre, great for getting fish & chips on our first night. The house itself was very stylish with lovely original art work and bigger than expexted. It was also very well equipped - anything you might need in a kitchen was there, down to cake forks and a potato masher... and a very nice selection of mugs ;-) Also lots of dog beds, dog covers for the sofa, even some emergency dog food for upset tummies, which we thankfully didn't need. Although the dog shampoo did come in very handy when the dogs discovered dead seals on the beach for rolling in - on the lead after that on that part of the beach! Also a great selection of books, maps, bird guide books etc. Caroline was very welcoming and really helpful when I got in touch with questions. Caroline has provided everything you could need for a dog-friendly holiday by the sea and the welcome basket is the best we have received at any rental property. Jack's Shack is virtually on the dunes making it so easy for humans and dogs to go for lovely walks from the doorstep regardless of the tides. The Seal View is a perfect place to stop for a coffee and the fish & chips from the Winterton Fish Bar are the best around! Out of the back door and straight onto the dunes where my boys could run, walk, sniff freely off lead. A few minutes (or more dependant on sniffing) and you are at the beach. Jacks Shack is a very comfortable cottage and well equipped with lots of cups, plates etc. dishwasher, washing machine (should you need??) Totally enclosed garden so completely safe for dogs. Winterton is a quietish lovely location with just one pub, which suited us. If you want rowdy late nights, this is not a place for you!! Nestled right near the beach, this charming dog-friendly cottage is a perfect getaway for pet lovers. The outdoor area offers plenty of room for you to enjoy the sun whilst your furry friends have access to the picturesque beach and sand dunes easily. Parking available in the garage. Inside, the cottage is cozy and well-appointed, with comfortable furnishings and all the amenities you need for a relaxing stay. We stayed for four nights at a lovely little cottage (Jack’s Shack) which is right behind the dunes at Winterton on sea. Gorgeous beach, lovely little village, really cosy little cottage with literally everything you might ever need! I loved how incredibly hound-friendly this holiday was - the owner clearly really loves dogs and my dog felt so welcome! The communication before, during and after my stay (from the owner and from the East Ruston team),was exceptional, and I will definitely consider having a holiday stay with East Ruston cottages another time. What a fabulous place to stay, from the location, to the facilities to everything thought of for the dogs, we really cannot fault Jack's Shack. The kitchen was so well equipped, the bed super comfy with quality bed linen and pillows and everywhere was spotless and furnished to a lovely standard which felt very homely. The log burner was easy to light with logs provided. We loved to be able to walk out the back directly onto the dunes but still so close to the fish shop, pub and tea room all literally a 2/3 mins walk. Everything has been thought of and we are very much looking forward to another visit next year. ##### carol B. A great location right on the sand dunes in Winterton on Sea. Open the back door and you can walk for miles with the dog running free. The owner has provided everything you could possibly need both for humans and dogs! She made contact before our stay which made arriving very smooth. A relaxing week from the start. Jack’s Shack is great for humans and dogs alike with lots of thoughtful touches including dog blankets, towels, beds, bowls, ‘holiday’ tags and a nice welcome pack for us. Very spacious bedroom, well appointed kitchen, good sized dining room and a lovely suntrap sunroom. One of the highlights is that the back garden is essentially the start of the dunes. It's a lovely little cottage only footsteps (literally) away from the dunes at Winterton, so a perfect location for both humans and dogs. The cottage it one of the best appointed and provisioned holiday cottages we've stayed in. The owners have thought of everything two-legged and four-legged guests could need including a lovely welcome basket of goodies. We would definitely recommend it and look forward to returning there one day. We was welcomed with lots of treats, wine cheese crisps etc. There was also every toiletry you could need. The house was beautiful with a log burner which was lovely as we went in February so was used every night. There is a lovely dog friendly pub within walking distance and the most beautiful beach on the doorstep. It was absolutely perfect. The cottage was beautiful, very comfortable and had everything you could wish for. The added extras and the welcome packs were amazing. The location was wonderful, straight into the sand dunes and then onto beach in seconds. Cute village with all the amenities you could want. The owners really helpful and lovely. Couldn't of wished for more really.
