7am breakfast, only 1 person is working and not quite ready to serve your guests. Coffee machine not working and no one to ask. No one is there. The bread is straight out from the fridge. The location is next to a motorcycle shop. Very noise when they are testing their customers bike. Room is clean.

Location is very good and staff friendly, but concierge services were poor when seeking advice re places to eat. The room was comfortable and had a nice balcony, but one floorboard was broken, covered by a mat. Breakfast was disappointing - many items in the warmers were cold and it was hit and miss getting eggs cooked the way you liked depending on who was on duty. Often food that had run our was not restocked in a timely manner at times leaving little choice. Overall it appeared that the kitchen was understaffed and not particularly vigilant.

Super cute, but the hardest mattresses ever
This hotel is *super* cute, and the breakfast spreads were quite good (I've had better, but those were pretty extreme). The location is great for walking around downtown. Note that the Transfer rooms require walking up two flights of stairs. The wifi speed was good, but maxed out on three devices. The second day there wasn't a lot of hot water for some reason. Check-in was a bit slow, but not unreasonably so. My biggest problem was that the beds were *super* hard. While I hope to visit Penang again, I won't be staying at this hotel just because of the mattresses, they were that bad. It was practically just a 1-inch layer of foam on top of a box-spring, it was that hard. Unfortunately hard mattresses are sort of a southeast asian thing so I am not sure other places will be much better either.

This hotel is in the perfect location. It had everything you need and very comfortable as well. Can be a little noisy as it’s located on a main road but it’s not too bad and they do provide you with ear plugs. Excellent staff, everything is as described on the site as well.

Overall experience is okay. Service staff are accommodating. The only not so pleasant experience is the constant body odor in the room - not sure if it's from the guest prior to my stay or it's from the housekeeper who cleans my room. I had to open the window and put the fan in full blast whenever I return to my room.

Nice location on the edge of GeorgeTown, which is an easy walk away. The hotel offered an overall old school charm bringing back memories of the times spent in Singapore in the mid 60's. Room comfortable and big. Bed a tad too hard for my liking, but OK. Nice decor, balcony over looking the green and lush courtyard with interesting bird life. Just a tad noisy because of traffic (motor scooters with dodgy silencers!). Plenty of very good eateries in the general location, including 2 rather good hawker centers nor more than 5-6 mins away on foot.

Unfortunate incident
Beware if you got a duplex room with stairs. The stairs is so slippery despite us being very careful both of us slipped and got injured. When we inform the front desk they were not concerned at all and just nod. Another guest heard our conversation and mentioned she nearly slipped as well but it was a room without stairs. Please take note and for kids and elderly please do not book the room with stairs. There's a lot of dusts as well. Cleanliness not that good

The location is close to old George Town area and convenient to walk around. Hotel itself is mordernized from an old bulding and the room is full of antique furnitures and decoration. Good for short stay and exploration old town!

Okay but could be outstanding
Beautiful old style building, myself and friends stayed in one of the villas with a jacuzzi. However, the jacuzzi didn’t work properly, and we also were left without any water supply on more than one occasion. The hotel staff were extremely friendly and keen to help, and overall we enjoyed our stay, but the hotel could definitely do with some investment to maintain what could be an incredible place to stay.

We were happy with the room we got- the two bedroom terrace with a kitchen and a lounge room. We really enjoyed having the space. It was clean and inviting. The terrace was even better with the spa in the backyard. We liked having the gym there but the treadmills do need to be replaced. They were also accommodating with the checkout time as we had a late flight. Overall, wee can't wait to return.

Not as nice as the photos make out. Air con in suites way too noisy. Basic breakfast. The gym is a joke. Jacuzzi smelled of sewage. No obvious smoke or fire alarms important as building made of wood. Misleading information from staff regarding morning grab taxi and ferry availability. They said it may be difficult to get grab and the ferry would be packed. They were wrong on both accounts. Trying to steer us towards an expensive taxi. Wouldn't stay again.

Beautiful room, garden and pool. Lovely complimentary refreshments. Wanted small meals from restaurant but the special services running at dinner meant this was unavailable. Lunch before 11am was also unavailable. Traffic noise was unfortunate.

We love this hotel, especially the jacuzzi inside the bathroom, its perfect for refreshing from a tiring day. The room is big, very comfortable. Few things could be improved, the air-conditioning maybe too weak, the variety of breakfast, otherwise all are very nice experience.

Our stay at Hotel Penaga
Our room was on the second floor, the window was facing the side road so it was a bit noisy with traffic. Otherwise it’s a nice, cozy and private hotel. They provide nice breakfast and simple tea break, although only one or two types each time but the taste is always spot on. Highly recommended but request for a room that doesn’t face this side road.

We like our room and the friendliness of all the staff! They are so friendly. What we don’t like is the small size and the location of the swimming pool. We found lots of food flies on the breakfast buffet and the food is also just so so but the free afternoon tea and free wine makes up the difference. We prefer eating out on the street and walking around during the day. The location of the hotel is closed to everything. It’s very convenient to catch taxi, free bus and even the airport bus and the 101 and 102. I think all the buses stop at the same stop in downtown. If you are lost just go to komtor the main bus station then walk back about 10 mins to the hotel. Ask the reception for advice. They are very good and helpful. They even printed out museums information to us. Hotel room is very pretty. Private jacuzzi and massage shower tap. It’s very fancy and hug.That the reason why I booked this hotel. Not disappointing. Even though it is noisy because of the motorcycle shop across the room. We slept very well cuz we were so tired after walking so much under the intense heat in the afternoon and at night. My complaint really is the small size of the swimming pool. There were one same couple using the pool on both afternoon that we were there and no other people are using it. The pool is so small that only two people can be used at the same time. It’s like 4x10 ft long. And also you can see through the bottom on the side cuz it is all glass. What’s a strange combination of it!

Lovely heritage hotel
We had a lovely stay at Hotel Penaga. The hotel and the staff are amazing. George Town is incredible. The only problem was that the wifi was very poor (and my husband and I were needing to still be in contact with work matters). The staff tried very hard to fix the wifi and eventually moved us to a different room. This resolved the problem temporarily. If wifi isn't important, this is a fabulous hotel.

A lovely looking hotel with free afternoon tea and nice buffet breakfasts. We had a free upgrade to a balcony room which was good apart from the fact it was facing the road so a bit noisy, especially from the motorcycle shop opposite. Make sure you like a very firm bed as if so, these wont disappoint!
