"My wife and I stayed at The House Hotel shortly after Christmas this year. I made and paid for the booking through my Hotels.com account. Upon check-in, the receptionist requested my card details to cover any incidental or additional charges that might arise during our stay. We checked out the following morning, and no extra charges were incurred. Several months later, while reviewing my transactions, I noticed an additional charge on my card. To my surprise, The House Hotel had charged me again for the room, despite the accommodation having already been fully paid for through Hotels.com. While the hotel ultimately reimbursed the duplicate charge and apologised for the error, this only occurred after I identified the issue myself and contacted management to raise the matter. Had I not reviewed my transactions and pursued it, the overcharge may well have gone unnoticed. I found this experience deeply disappointing and wholly unacceptable. As someone who travels frequently for work and stays in hotels throughout the year, I have never encountered a situation where I was incorrectly charged for accommodation that had already been paid for in full. What is particularly disappointing is that the error was not identified by the hotel itself. Given that the duplicate charge was processed by the hotel, I would have expected robust internal controls to detect the mistake and for management to contact me proactively by email to advise me of the error and arrange a refund.
