THE SPACE
Your chalet is tucked into the forest atop Yockum Hill and includes 3.5 acre acres of land to explore. This includes an acre of grassy hillside for stargazing, cooking s’mores or sledding in the winter. The remainder of the property is woodland. From the chalet you may ride your ATV on all roads from Memorial Day until Labor Day, and snowmobile during the winter. There's even an attached garage with overhead doors on each end so you can drive your ATV or snowmobile in one side and pull out the other.
There is a gravel parking lot spacious enough for 6+ vehicles or trailers. The attached garage is accessible to you during your stay.
Entering from the side of the home, you will find the laundry area, and a space for coats and shoes. Next you’ll pass through the kitchen which has been fully stocked with the cookware you’ll want to keep your fellow guests well fed.
As you explore the kitchen, your attention will be drawn to the great room by the floor to ceiling stone fireplace and the majestic mountain views pouring through the ten large windows. The pellet stove is easily operated and provides a wonderful radiant heat sufficient to warm the entire first and second floor. There is no AC in the home, but there are two large ceiling fans in the great room, and three oscillating fans provided.
In the great room you’ll find an open floor plan that includes a dining table with seating for 10, a sitting room surrounding the fireplace, and an entertainment space with a 55” smart TV for streaming all your favorite shows and movies.
All of the bedrooms are located on the back half of the home where the shade of the forest will help keep you cool on those warm summer days. There is a large bedroom on the first floor with a queen bed, a large built in shelving unit for clothing and a closet. The second floor has another large bedroom with a queen bed and a third bedroom with a bunk bed setup. The bunk bed includes a full size lower bed and a single lofted bed. In the basement there is a full size mattress inside a pullout couch.
In the basement you’ll find a pool table, vintage 60’s Rockola Jukebox which plays 45s, and another seating area with a pullout couch. There’s another pellet stove to keep you comfortable and two more sliding doors giving you access to the lower deck.

We love the location and the property! It's a great place to unwind and spend time with family. You can't find a better stargazing location in the region than Cherry Springs, and we loved that the property was only a ten minute drive.
The house has everything you need for a relaxing stay in the country. While the weather didn’t cooperate for us to do any star gazing it was still a great place to relax by the fire (pellet stove) and do nothing for a few days.
Beautiful cabin in a gorgeous setting that did not disappoint. Quiet and relatively private, we really enjoyed our stay. Cabin was as advertised, clean, spacious and well supplied with the kitchen essentials. We loved it!
Planned our stay for stargazing I didn’t disappoint. Sky were clear had beautiful sunrises peaceful. Everyone loved the house. Plenty of places to go visit.
This was a lovely experience! The beds were comfortable, open floor plan made it nice to gather in front of the pellet stove with big windows to see the gorgeous snowy mountain view! The variety of activites & pantry items added to the comforts!

Our weekend stay was certainly wet from the coastal storm but warm from the fireplace and exceptionally comfortable from the furnishings. The view is beautiful in any weather. We hope to return soon.

amazing location and great host! The owner of this house was very kind and answered many questions quickly. We could see beautiful sunrise from the house and the view was just stunning! We will return someday for sure.
Property was great. Exactly as described on listing. Clean and roomy. We had terrible weather so no stargazing but still beautiful scenery. Ben was extremely responsive. We would go back with hopes for better weather !
Everything was exactly as shown. The hosts were very responsive (even to questions ahead of the stay). The views from the deck were amazing, although we didn't think to check the moon cycle so we didn't see many stars. The pellet stoves made the whole house seem cozy, and the pool table was fun!
I would definitely recommend this house to anyone seeking a peaceful getaway from the bustle.
The chalet is tastefully decorated and comfy. It is spacious and has 3 bed-rooms (4 beds) that suit my family's need. Sitting in the chalet or on the deck, you can enjoy the beautiful mountain views during daytime and stars at nights. The chalet is stocked with utensils/tools, spices, linens, towels and first-aid therefore provides a lot of convenience. The hosts are very responsive and friendly and always offer detailed and helpful information. The chalet also has board games, movies and pool and my whole family enjoyed the stay!
This was our first trip to Potter County to view the Dark Skies, and we were amazed by the scenery, location, but most importantly, the property. We stayed with our adult children and my sister and her partner, and everyone said that the house was one of the most thoughtfully appointed vacation rental. We cooked all our meals at the house and enjoyed being together with the night skies as our main entertainment. Everything was fairly easy to find, and we appreciated the clear directions to operate the pellet stove. We truly enjoyed our stay and would recommend the house to anyone staying in the area.
Stayed at the mountain vista chalet.
What a step back in time, the place was very nice, somewhat remote as expected, but the view was breathtaking. You literally can see for miles and at night the stars are just humbling. We shot pool and listened to the jukebox downstair, laughed and had a good time. The two days we stayed felt like a week. The Hosts go out of their way to ensure that your stay is verry pleasant. The guide book they provided is so informative. Thank you Ben & Thanh for allowing us to experience a piece of heaven.

We had an absolutely fabulous 3-night stay at this mountain chalet in Cherry Springs, PA! From the moment we arrived, we were impressed by how well-appointed and thoughtfully designed the home was. It’s simple yet elegant, with every amenity you could possibly need for a comfortable and relaxing stay. The chalet is impeccably maintained and cozy, creating the perfect atmosphere to unwind. We were especially captivated by the breathtaking views and the amazing starry nights—Cherry Springs truly lives up to its reputation as one of the best stargazing spots in the country. The quiet surroundings and serenity of the area made for a peaceful retreat. We loved the combination of modern comforts and rustic charm, and we could easily tell the host takes great pride in offering a top-notch experience. We hope to return in the future when the weather allows for more outdoor activities! Thank you for an unforgettable stay! Highly recommend.
We had a wonderful time at the mountain vista chalet. The home is spacious, clean, and welcoming. The land is gorgeous, as is the view of the mountains and stars. The main room was perfect for a relaxing evening looking out over the mountains, with extra warmth from the pellet stove. We got engaged here the first night while admiring the stars! The game room has a lot to offer as well, with the pool table, jukebox, board games, and lots of movies. The VHS player was nostalgic fun too! The kitchen had everything we needed to make breakfast and dinner. A short 8 minute drive took us to Cherry Springs park for an unbeatable view of the night sky. We also explored other walking/hiking trails in the area. Perfect for a romantic getaway, would stay here again!!
My family and I really enjoyed our stay at Mountain Vista Chalet! We spent 4 nights there. The home has a fantastic view of mountains and the night sky, which was perfect for stargazing! The house is tastefully decorated and kept very clean. The place is well-stocked with cooking supplies and other gadgets you might need. The bbq could use a new grate, but we used foil to keep the food clean. The pool table was a lot of fun and we watched movies in the coolness of the basement. The only complaint we have is that there isn’t any air conditioning. Our visit was unfortunately during a heat-wave, and it got very hot during the day with temps in the upper 90s. There are plenty of fans located throughout the house, which helped a little. Other than that, our stay was terrific! The hosts are very responsive and helpful!
Serene Stay Surrounded by Nature - Can't Wait to Return!
We had a truly wonderful stay at this beautiful home in Galeton. Upon check-in, we encountered a small issue with the code, but Thanh, the host, was incredibly prompt and helpful in resolving it.
The house was immaculate and well-equipped, though we did miss having a cheese grater for our pasta night (but we managed!). We originally came for astrophotography, and although we only had one night with semi-clear skies for about two hours around 3 am, it was still stunning. I can only imagine how magical it would be under completely clear skies.
Surrounded by breathtaking nature, we enjoyed the peace and tranquility of the setting. Watching the sunrise from the balcony and hearing wolves howling around 9 pm were unforgettable experiences. The sounds of cows mooing from the farm down the hill and the views of the horses added a unique charm to our stay.
We took amazing photos of the wildlife and explored the woods out back, which was a highlight of our trip. Observing the hummingbirds attracted to the balcony plants and grounding ourselves by laying on the grass in such a serene environment was truly special. Although we didn’t get the clear skies we hoped for, we can’t wait to return and hopefully experience it fully under a starry night!
If You're Looking For a Country Retreat, This Is It.
The Mountain Vista Chalet is a nice little place on the side of a hill. It has spectacular views of the eastern sky, and a nice view of the western sky is just a short drive down Songbird Way (opposite the driveway of this hours).
Inside you'll find all the things I've come to associate with VRBO rentals: little knickknacks throughout, banners and signs that say things like "happiness" and "love" on the walls, and a clean and comfortable base of operations for your rustic adventure into northwest Penn. Everything about the house says "don't worry, be happy" in a Pennsylvania kind of way.
The area is full of tiny towns and hamlets, and those are filled with friendly, kind people. I'm talking about the genuine kind of friendly, too. Not the "we have to be friendly because tourism is our life" kind you get in a lot of places. These folks are just nice, and finding that out was the best part of our trip.
Unfortunately for us, Mother Nature was in a bit of a mood, and it rained on us every day but one. She was also very stingy with the fall colors we were hoping to ogle. But, she did give us 6 rainbows (!?), a comet and some pretty sunrises. We took what we could get.
Just a note for those considering the rental: Yamaha Lane (essentially the home's driveway) is rutted and steep. Any SUV or truck won't have a problem, but something like a Camero or Mustang? Naw, don't try that. There are also lots of deer that love to dart out in front of your car. Fun!
Absolutely amazing stay. Beautiful panoramic views of the hills and the night sky. The house itself is so cozy and really nice. 10 min drive to Cherry Springs with views that rival what you see at the park itself. Great hosts as well, promptly communicate and also provided a lot of great info on nearby attractions! 10/10 would come stay again!
