With its location in the middle of the country, Fyn is referred to as Denmark's El Dorado, not least because of the unique surroundings and the many quaint towns. There is something adventurous about Fyn, perhaps because the world-famous poet, H.C. Andersen, was born in the main town Odense. You can walk in his footsteps by visiting H.C. Andersen's House and the location at the stream where he often worked on his books. You can also visit Odense Zoo or some of the many museums.
Experience more on your trip to Fyn and visit Egeskov Castle, complete with a very large garden and many activities for the entire family. The castle is surrounded by a moat and beautiful scenery that you can explore in addition to several museums and collections of rare cars and aeroplanes. You can enter the large halls in the castle and soak up the atmosphere.
Fyn is surrounded by approx. 90 small islands in the Sydfynske Øhav. You can go sailing and visit some of these islands. Ærø, for example, is a well-loved destination with good beaches, as well as traditional towns and houses. On a warm summer day it is also very popular to rent a sea kayak so you can row between the islands at your own speed.
You can get to Fyn via Lillebæltsbroen (Lillebælt Bridge) from Jylland and Storebæltsbroen (Storebælt Bridge) from Sjælland, and there are also bridges to some of the small islands. There are ferry connections to the other inhabited islands and most routes are from the two biggest towns on the south coast, Faaborg and Svendborg.
