The comet is somewhat unique since this would be it's only ever visit to the inner Solar System before being ejected to interstellar space forever. It was by no means an easy target to locate and photograph in the night sky especially for someone who's never done that before. But this is not about my attempts at capturing Comet Catalina (although I did manage to view and capture it). After I was done looking at the comet, I settled by the beach next to this pier, one of my favorite places on the North Carolina Outerbanks, to hear the ocean's mesmerizing soundtrack. I still had about 2 hours to go before sunrise and so I was just sitting and enjoying the unseasonably warm winter in December and just looking at the stars, Venus, Jupiter and Mars in the night sky. I suddenly noticed this big cloud about 5 minutes in streaking just below bright Venus. On a hunch, I decided to capture an image to see what the cloud looked like and a short 15 second later, I saw the start of what turned out to be one of the most perfect sunrises I have borne witness to. The cloud had started to just pick up the first rays from the sun, with about an hour and a half to go before sunrise. I love the juxtaposition of every single element in this image. The fading of the night sky and stars with Venus shining valiantly as the sun comes back to herald the start of another day, the stretch of unbroken cloud over the hurricane damaged pier and the sheer beauty created in an otherwise damaging act of Mother Nature (the hurricane, not the sunrise :) ). This duality is what inspired the title of the image. If you're near the NC coast, this location is a must stop. It is close to the town of Buxton and the Cape Hatteras Lighthouse. Our stay at the Fin & Tonic was terrific! The central location was very convenient with stores, ferries and fishing spots close by. The house was still in the process of being updated but was still comfortable, clean and the beds slept great. This is the second time I have been there with my significant other and our two pets. The area is so nice and secluded and this place was comfortable to be in. There were a few areas that were dirty ( a used floss on the nightstand, hair on the bed sheets and fridge and certain areas on the carpet) but other than that everything during the stay went really well. There isn’t a blender when we were there so we couldn’t make smoothies lol but it was okay! We truly enjoyed our stay there and was really happy with our days there at the beach. He's so responsive and detailed. This place is super cute and was perfect for our group of friends (5 of us). There was so much in the kitchen (pots, pans, dishes, cleaning and paper supplies) it was amazing. We've stayed in other properties and some places have next to nothing. The living area had enough room for us all to claim our own spaces. It was close to the beach which was a must for us. The crows nest was so great to sit in. We had the view of the Sound and Ocean. The beach is a short walk from the house and the sound is a short walk in the other direction. There's three rooms that all having locking doors for privacy. Great location. Close to and easy access to the beach. Close to ferry. The house was very comfortable with everything you would need. The place was not dirty but given the fact that you are required as guests to make your own beds on arrival, vacuum before departure, and start the laundry before you leave, I would expect housekeeping to make sure the home is spotless. I would not expect to find previous guests dirty socks under the bed as we did and dirty glasses and pans in the cabinet. I clean rental houses on the side for extra money and those kind of things are unacceptable in my book.
