Absolutely a gem. The property is beautiful and the cabin, looks rustic until you get inside and are treated to a very nicely appointed interior. Comfortable furniture, a lovely pellet stove for heat and mini-splits for heat and air. The kitchen is tiny but completely usable. The property backs up to beautiful forest, with direct access to trails. The pup insisted on walks every morning even when raining. The location feels safe and secure being through several other properties to get to it, yet very private and quiet. This property and the surrounding Fort Bragg was the highlight to our trip. Thank you.
The property is very pretty tucked in the redwoods. We did not use the firepit due to weather but it was a great space. The house was clean with a cute book for everyone to write their trips in. The owners take well care of the property
My husband and I wanted a weekend get away for our anniversary. Somewhere quiet and secluded. The Kona cabin was perfect and everything we were looking for. And it was close to activities and restaurants.
I always have a wonderful time at this property. The hosts are awesome people, the cabin is clean and the property is a wooded forest with lots of places to explore.
A perfect evening there involves a local pizza, a movie, a glass of wine and cozy comfies.
It’s a hidden little spot in the redwoods. Very quiet, clean & cozy. Close enough to town; about a 7 minute drive to the store… We enjoyed ourselves… Thank you!
A wonderful place to reconnect with nature and the family. The cabin is surrounded by beautiful redwoods that make you forget your minutes away from the Beach.
Dog friendly. Cozy and comfy. Quiet and in the woods but very close to fort Bragg. Great instructions left regarding the house. Great for 2adults, a dog and small children.
We thoroughly enjoyed our stay at Kona cabin. The cabin was cozy, well stocked, and a perfect escape! The cabin is located in a coastal forest, and we loved hiking on the property and the Jackson Stare Forest located nearby. My four year old especially loved the abundant fungi, salamanders, and other life found on the property! We hope to visit Kona cabin again.
My family (including dog) enjoyed our stay in Kona Cabin. The air smelled so good in the woods. It was very peaceful. Convenient hiking through the back of the property. It is a very cozy, quiet place to relax. They left a wonderful bottle of wine to enjoy! Thank you for the hospitality!
This was our fourth stay at Kona Cabin. We continue to return because the cozy accommodations. You get the feel of a secluded cabin while being very close to town. You also get a large outdoor space and fire pit. We used it every night to cook s’mores and feel like we were camping before retreating to our beautiful cabin. Thanks for sharing your home!
This is our third stay at the cabin and we enjoyed our visit. Our 2 small dogs can wander the property off leash and it is generally very quiet. However, the pellet stove can get a bit loud when it is on high fire. The internet connection was very fast and reliable - which has not been the case on some of our stays at other remote locations.
All we wanted for our trip was a cozy cabin nestled in the woods, and that's exactly what we got! We loved having easy access into the state forest and exploring amphibians, trees, and mushrooms on the property. Heather and Robert are absolutely wonderful - they got the cabin heated up prior to our arrival and supported us every step of our stay. We think the cabin is pretty clean and roomy. The light switches were a bit of a puzzle and we had to open the chilly door while we cooked to keep the kitchen from getting too smokey while we cooked, but really no big deal when you have a place like this to make memories in!
Great place to stay. Secluded, quiet little cabin yet close to everything Fort Bragg has to offer. The bed was comfortable. We enjoyed sitting on the porch and by the firepit in the evenings. Lots to explore in the area. The forest is at the back of the property. You can hike right our the front door to see a gorgeous creek, with lush vegetation. Just 5 minutes drive to the beach! So much to see in this area. The beauty of nature never ceases to amaze and it was a treat to stay in the center of it all. The redwood out front is one of the largest we have seen so far.
WOW! Don't just a book by it's cover. This little cabin doesn't look fancy on the outside but what an amazing place. LOVED the wooded, quiet secluded setting with the HUGE Redwood in the yard. Great inside space, extremely clean and comfortable. Well supplied kitchen. Wood pellet stove kept us comfortable for the cooler nights. Very convenient to Ft Bragg and local spots of interest. One of our favorite stays on our 10 day trip to CA from PA! Would definitely stay again if we are ever back in the area.

Not what we expected
No usable outdoor area. Almost no water pressure. Lighting was really bad and the house was very dark!
We head up to the Mendocino coast just about every year and this has been our favorite place yet! It’s very secluded in the woods and yet quite close to Fort Bragg and only 15 minutes from our favorite beaches in Mendocino. The cabin was clean and the bed was SO comfy! I always bring my own pillows and blankets just in case but that was not needed here. They even had beds for our dogs which was so thoughtful. We played fetch with our dogs every AM from the porch while drinking coffee and then did a lap around the property while watching out for all the banana slugs, ha! When we made it back on time in the evening we all set up by the campfire for some wine and smores and it was so peaceful and just perfect. The heat worked great, shower was wonderful, and there was everything we needed in the kitchen to make morning eggs or burritos. I can’t recommend this spot enough! Location, comfort, dog friendliness, just perfect!
My husband and I are originally from the San Diego area. We recently relocated to Northern and we were looking for recommendations to celebrate our fourth wedding anniversary. Fort Bragg came highly recommended.
It was my first time using Vrbo and I came across Kona Cabin. I really appreciated the good reviews. We were looking for someplace, secluded, private, quiet, and romantic. Kona Cabin fit the bill exactly.
It has everything needed to cook a meal, close enough to town and all activities. It’s the perfect location!
The property itself is remarkable. We brought our dog and explored the area to its fullest. Everything was right outside the front door. One day I walked for over an hour, never seeing another person.
We had fun hiking all the beach areas, touring famous landmarks, hanging out in the little charming town of Mendocino and eating good food in Fort Bragg.
We plan on returning next year!
My wife and I came to Mendocino area for our “mini-moon” after we just got married. We liked how the Kona Cabin was more secluded and tucked back into the Forrest. It also was only a short drive to Fort Bragg where you could go to a restaurant or grocery store. We enjoyed how much effort our hosts put into making sure our stay was a special one (property was stocked with coffee, creamer, a bottle of local red wine, popcorn, and a welcome card)!
All of the information provided in the cabin was very much appreciated (including local options for recreation, food and groceries). The only thing that could have been better was the insulation in the cabin and pellet stove since the high temps were in the mid 50s degF and lows in the 40s degF during our stay (May 2-May 5). The pellet stove didn't exactly function as the instructions mentioned. The instructions were clear they were slightly inaccurate. Basically not enough wood pellets were loaded during the normal startup sequence to sustain a fire so I had to turn the unit off and back on to make sure enough pellets were loaded. Luckily the hosts did provide an electric heater in the bedroom, which was very helpful.
Even with the minor setback of the pellet stove, it was a very relaxing and enjoyable experience.
