A great way to experience the Park! Getting in and out was an adventure all its own. Saw crocs, manatees, and lots of birds. Well thought out design using old shipping containers. Take the boat rides out into the area around the lodge… very interesting!
What a terrific place to use as a home base to see the Everglades! The rooms are small, but cozy. They have a lovely balcony for use during the day - in the evening bugs may drive you inside. The restaurant is casual, the food is great & the staff can’t be beat!! They are very friendly and helpful. While there we took the backcountry boat trip. It was fabulous - we saw gators, manatees & lots of different birds. Make sure to hike the Anhinga Trail! We saw 5 gators & lots of birds & wildlife. The Anhinga birds are very fun to see - they fish under water so you see them with their wings spread out to dry them. The Mahogany Hammock is another great walk. It’s an elevated boardwalk about .4 of a mile. Note that the hotel is at the west side of the park - overlooking the water. Many of the sites are near the east side, about a 30 mile drive. We made this drive back and forth a few times - didn’t mind a bit. If you want to add a couple good “nature” days to your vacation, this is a great way to do it. We combined it with a trip to the Florida Keys.
We stayed with another couple in a 2 bedroom suite. The view was gorgeous from the deck. It would be nice to have 2 additional chairs in a 4 person room. The kitchen was well stocked. The bedrooms are small and there was not a lot of storage but it all worked. The bathroom was clean and basic. Again for 4 people we could have used a couple more towel hooks and maybe mirrors in the bedrooms.
Our one bedroom room was very large and very clean! The balcony view was beautiful and surrounded by nature. Parking was easy and close to our rooms. It’s important to note that the rooms are only accessible by stairs so luggage must be carried up which wasn’t an issue for us.
The onsite restaurant was a big disappointment for my family. My husband and I ordered the Mahi mahi wraps and my daughter ordered the chicken fingers. All of the food made us sick. The fish smelled very very fishy so I only took a few bites before I realized that it was off. The chicken fingers my daughter ordered were grey in colour and had an odd foamy texture. All of us experienced an upset stomach after eating the little we managed to keep down. We opted to exit the park (over a one hour drive) in order to dine elsewhere for the rest of our two night trip. There is no excuse for serving off food like that. So our recommendation would be to bring your own groceries and plan to cook your meals in the beautiful kitchen provided in the rooms.
All in all, you can’t beat the location!!
Room was very clean and you cannot beat the view or location. Very spacious room and the kitchenette was great for making dinner and breakfast. The signal is a bit weak inside the room but if you open the window, the signal works!
Breakfast available for market price. Restaraunt was decent and your only option for many miles. Staff service was minimal. Board games were the only amenity.
