"This is a beautiful old hotel property. It has great bones and the rooms have been updated and modernized nicely. That said, there are some very quirky aspects to the property. Firstly, there is no reception - just an automated machine that provides a key card. This means that there is no one to ask about parking, amenities etc. The second thing is that no one speaks English at all. The cleaning staff was very sweet but could not speak a word. We had to use Google Translate for all...

Top Fichtenhainichen Hotel Reviews

Hotel Schloss Schweinsburg

Hotel Schloss Schweinsburg

10/10 Excellent
"Beautiful hotel set in nice grounds. The main building used to be a palace. We were allocated a room in the adjoining building. When we first arrived, we were told that they were full, despite us having booked in advance. But this was soon sorted out. Our room was clean and tidy and spacious. It had a slanted ceiling right above the bed, so we had to be careful getting in and out. The wifi was not very strong in the room but luckily we did not really need it for anything special. The restaurant offered a buffet or the a la carte menu. The buffet looked a bit lacking so we chose the menu and the food was excellent. We can highly recommend the pork schnitzel and the salmon. Parking free and on site. All in all, a lovely place to stay."

Frequently asked questions

What is the best area to stay in Fichtenhainichen?
The best area to stay in Fichtenhainichen is the central part of the town, particularly around Marktplatz (Market Square), as it offers the most convenience and access to local amenities.

This area is the heart of Fichtenhainichen, featuring historic buildings and a selection of local shops, bakeries, and restaurants. The Marktplatz itself is a focal point, often hosting local events or markets, and the surrounding streets are easily walkable. You'll find many of the town's facilities within a short stroll.

Couples looking for a relaxed and authentic German experience will appreciate this area. Staying near Marktplatz means you're perfectly placed to enjoy leisurely strolls, discover independent shops, and dine at traditional eateries. It's also an excellent base for exploring the local hiking trails and the nearby Fichtenhainichen Castle, which is a short walk from the town centre.

For those travelling with family, the area around the Stadtwald (Town Forest) on the eastern edge of Fichtenhainichen offers a great balance of comfort and outdoor access. While still a short walk or drive from Marktplatz, this neighbourhood provides easy access to green spaces and walking paths, ideal for children to play and for families to enjoy nature.
When is the best time to go to Fichtenhainichen?
The best time to go to Fichtenhainichen is typically during the late spring (May to June) or early autumn (September to October) for pleasant weather and fewer crowds.

During these months, the weather is generally mild and agreeable, superb for exploring the surrounding Thuringian Forest or taking leisurely strolls through the town. You'll find the natural landscape at its most appealing, with spring blossoms or the vibrant colours of autumn foliage, making outdoor activities particularly enjoyable.

For those interested in hiking or cycling, these periods offer comfortable temperatures without the peak summer heat or the chill of winter.
