Eton Village is a traditional island village on the east coast of Efate Island. Swim in crystal-clear waters, visit a local school, and listen to conversations in Eton, which is a dialect of the South Efate language. One of the best ways to visit the village is on a day tour of Efate Island. Tours depart from Port Vila. Check the official Port Vila tourism website for details. Alternatively, rent a car from one of the rental companies in Port Vila.Eton Beach is one of the main attractions of the area. This small and sheltered white-sand beach is ideal for swimming and snorkeling. There’s also a barbecue and picnic area, with washing facilities. A small admission fee is charged for parking cars at the beach. Nearby, have fun swinging from a rope swing and jumping into the Blue Lagoon. Set within a rain forest, this water hole is a combination of fresh and sea water.In the village itself you can experience the traditional lifestyle of residents of Vanuatu. Families live in wooden houses without electricity and grow produce to be sold at the Port Vila markets. Take photos with local children and sample fresh tropical fruit, such as papaya and coconut. While here, visit the village primary school. Check with your tour guide to find out if it will be open. Eaton Village is a 45-minute drive from Port Vila. Follow the road that circles the island. It passes fields of coconut trees planted during the island’s colonial era. If driving, four-wheel drive vehicles are the best option for accessing the beach.
