Popular sights around Eemnes

Eemnes is a city in the province of Utrecht. The city has been divided into two parts since forever: Eemnes-Binnen –mostly farms along de Wakkerendijk and a few historical buildings- and Eemnes-Buiten, where you will find the newer neighbourhoods.

One of those historical buildings is the Pieterskerk, a church that is also called ‘The fat little tower’ among locals. It was built in the 15th century and renovated in the 19th century. It was not good enough though, so when Queen Emma wanted to attend the church and have a family bench, she anonymously paid for new renovations. After a fire in 1921 it was rebuilt and reopened in 1922. The church has some unique features, like the 300 year old clock with only one hand, Queen Emma’s bench and two bells from the 17th century.

Speaking about history in the town of Eemnes: a part of the town is a registered protected area, where the town works to preserve the historical part, including buildings and streets.

Eemnes is located next to a large natural area of heather fields and forests. The heather fields will bloom purple in late summer, early fall, which makes for stunning views. The area is perfect for long walks, bike rides or even horse rides during the whole year. In the north, the town borders the lake Eemmeer. About half an hour by car to the east, you will find another natural area, named The Veluwe. This may very well be the most visited natural part of the country, right after the beaches. The sand dunes, heather fields and forests have a certain attraction over locals and tourists alike.

Research showed that Eemnes is the best accessible town in the Netherlands. From here, you can get almost anywhere within 78 minutes. That means that Eemnes is a great home base for discovering more of the country. Some cities nearby are Hilversum, Amersfoort and Almere. A bit further away you will find Amsterdam, Utrecht and of course many other cities, since Eemnes is located so central. These bigger cities have everything you might need or want, from a theatre to shops.
