Weng and Martin were a joy! They were so helpful in advance of our stay, telling us everything from where to store our luggage to where the nearest grocery stores were to if there was a full length mirror in the flat. Ladies - there is. Actually, the entire wall of the bedroom closets sliding doors are mirrored! We were surprised to see a few welcome snacks provided for us on arrival - granola, nuts, jam, milk and even a bottle of wine. The kitchen was stocked with all the creature comforts of home, making breakfast time a snap. The portable fan was a lifesaver for my husband who needs the white noise in his ears and the wind in his face at bedtime. The wool blanket and Harris Tweed Hot Water Bottle Cozy came in handy. We loved the built-in shelf above the bed - perfect for housing wallets, jewelry and cell phones - and the nesting tables fit perfectly next to the bed for glasses and reading books at bedtime. Once you descend the stairs to the flat, the world above you disappears. Not a peep was heard from the time we shut the front door until we left in the morning. We walked around the neighborhood at night several times and even went for an early run one morning but never once felt unsafe. A few spots worth checking out that are a quick walk away would be Fortuna Coffee, Panda & Sons speakeasy (For a true cocktail experience, order the Birdcage!), Bross Bagels or L'Alba D'Oro for the best Fish & Chips with Brown Sauce (which you can buy and I suggest you do). Don't miss the Stockbridge Market on Sundays - less than a 10 minutes walk - to check out some of the best Harris Tweed, local produce, artists, jewelers and even gin producers in Scotland. Eden Mill was there when we visited. Grassmarket Market on Saturdays is also a must for gourmet sausage rolls that will blow your mind. We bought four and warmed them up in the oven each day along with fresh berries, Scottish tea and Irn Bru for breakfast! The Royal Mile is not very far, but the castle itself is a good 30 minute walk, and it's uphill most of the way, so do plan accordingly. Still it's quite a lovely walk if you're up to it. That is the one piece of advice I would give anyone planning a visit. There are more hills than you expect, so wear your comfy shoes. NO HEELS as there are cobblestones everywhere. It was quite hard to wake up and leave the flat after our short visit, but we thoroughly enjoyed our time while we were in Edinburgh and hope to return soon. As they say, Haste Ye Back!
