Although the cottage is small, we never felt cramped or uncomfortable. It is bright, well furnished, and cheerfully decorated. The cottage is located in a quiet, wooded area. It is only a short walk to Edgartown and the beach on Eel Pond. ##### stanley m. I do wish it was better equipped for those who choose to cook. There was only one usable knife to cut things and it was a steak knife which is a bit dangerous. Also, no oven. Nevertheless, we made due and had a lovely week. ##### Deborah S. Stayed 7 nights in Jun 2023 ### 8/10 Good #### Carrie P., Boston, US 28 Aug 2018 #### Lovely Cottage and close to Edgartown The cottage is exactly as shown in the pictures. It is fairly new, well constructed, clean and charming. The outdoor shower is great. All amenities are as described except we found the small kitchenette only works if most food is cold or brought in from outside. The location is superb as it is a relatively short walk into Edgartown and near a conservation area that offers a delightful stroll through a property managed by the Sheriiff's Meadow Foundation. As mentioned, the cottage is on the property of a lovely private home. We second the review by Dana S in which she talks about the odd parking situation and the wet, ankle-deep grass through which one must walk each day to get to/from the cottage. The owners have an absolute gem that could be enhanced through some modest improvements. ##### Carrie P. Stayed 9 nights in Jul 2018 ### 8/10 Good #### Dana S. 21 Jul 2018 #### Beautiful, comfortable property...but... The cottage itself is absolutely adorable. The location is great and the bed is comfortable. Lynne and Rachel are kind and efficient. However, the parking situation is interesting. You must park outside the property fence in the sand/dirt area under some trees. The shade is nice, the dirt/sand in your car...not so much. The parking space is nearly a football field away from the cottage itself. There is a gravel drive and a lovely brick path to and around the main house garden to the side of the property. Then you must walk through ankle deep grass for approximately 20 yards to get to the cottage. This, too, would be fine except for the rain and irrigation which make grass clippings stick to your very wet shoes every time you come and go. Our first morning we were awakened by voices on the porch. The owner and a gardener were discussing the sprinkler issues. The gardener spent the next hour or so on the porch. Which would be ok, maintenance must happen, except there are no curtains. There are half shutters on the living area windows but you can see into the cottage from every window, including the porch. It was a slightly uncomfortable situation. There are room-darkening roman shades in the bedroom which are very nice. There is a washer-dryer in the bathroom. The kitchen has everything you need for quick meal prep, including a small fridge, microwave, hot plate, dishes and silverware and there is a nice grill out back. The landscaping and garden foliage is beautiful. The only thing I would suggest is making a path to the cottage itself. Sweeping grass out of the cottage each day and worrying about drying our shoes were our only real issues. ##### Dana S. The cottage is small and the kitchen is kind of sparse, but if you are looking for a place that is beautiful and an easy walk into Edgartown this will meet your needs. ##### Dan G. The location is perfect....within walking or biking distance to the bustle and charm of Edgartown, but nestled off a private road which affords quiet and peace. The cottage is light, airy and full of gorgeous antiques. The outdoor shower was the highlight every morning. The kitchenette afforded the opportunity for light meal preparation. Our hostesses, Rachel and Lynne, couldn't have been more gracious or accomadating. I have read reviews describing the difficulty walking through the grass to get to the cottage, but we found it not to be an issue at all...in fact, it was part of the allure! The cottage is set behind the main house and you must walk through the gardens to approach it....what a gorgeous path to this quaint cottage! We loved every minute of our escape there, and can't wait to visit again some day! ##### Heather G. Stayed 7 nights in Aug 2019 ### 10/10 Excellent #### Tanya Z. 7 Sept 2018 #### Perfect location! Beautiful cottage! Just returned home from our amazing vacation on Martha’s Vineyard. The cottage is beautiful and modern and is in perfect walking distance to Edgartown. We enjoyed a delightful week on Martha's Vineyard based at this adorable cottage. It was very clean, quiet, and well maintained. The bed is comfortable. The space has a great layout, its very functional and has all the amenities that one could want/need. Additionally, the location can't be beat. Our Hosts were very responsive and helpful during the run up to our visit and facilitated a great experience while on island. Dave & Jo ##### David B. We absolutely loved the Romantic Cottage. -Location was terrific. We biked into town most mornings for coffee and breakfast. We also walked into town at night for dinner quite a few times. -Cottage is adorable and has everything you need: outdoor grill, outdoor shower, spacious living room, queen bed. -Kitchen is little but, for us, it had everything we needed. We made breakfast most mornings and made a simple dinner twice. Fridge is like a dorm fridge but we stayed for five nights and it worked out just great for keeping drinks, eggs, cheeses and a few other things cold. -Cottage was spotless upon arrival. -Laundry was super convenient. -Stop and Shop is also five minutes away for anything you might need. Owners were super nice and welcomed us on the first day. We had been to the island quite a bit so didn't need suggestions but if we had needed any, they were right there. We had our car with us so that we could explore the whole island but it would have been just fine if we didn't. 10 minute walk to Edgartown and central transit system. Would definitely come back again! JoAnne and David ##### JoAnne B. During our visit we were often out and about; bicycling, walking, shopping, relaxing on the beach and seeing the sites. The cottage was the ideal home-base for us. From there it was an easy walk to the town center, the bus stop and the beach. The ferry dock at Oaks Bluff is accessible by taxi, we rented bicycles from Wheel Happy and we never needed (or wanted) a car. The cottage is part of a quiet, fragrant and picturesque setting behind the main house. The grounds and the buildings are out of a magazine. Inside the cottage, everything is clean, neat, private and on the smaller size with style. Our hosts were inviting, accommodating and made our stay memorable. This is a special place, we just loved it and have just 358 days before we’re back in Edgartown. ##### Jim L. It was the perfect little escape set behind beautiful gardens on the main property. The homeowners were pleasant and extremely respectful. There was not one problem to be had with the cottage during our stay but I have no doubt the owners would have attended to it immediately had one occurred. The cottage was not only clean but beautiful and so close to town. The only negative of this property is that it is set back a ways from the designated parking space - so if someone was handicapped or injured or if there was a rain storm getting to your vehicle would not be easy. Other than that it was the ideal spot for our summer get away. ##### Jenna M. This review was submitted before 2018 and can't be verified. ### 10/10 Excellent #### Jeffrey M. 11 Mar 2016 #### Cozy, charming and convenient retreat for two This delightful cottage is the perfect retreat for two who want a quintessential Vineyard experience. It is a short walk from the cottage to Edgartown village and all that it offers; great shops, restaurants, art galleries, music venues, cafes, a great book store, a lovely harbor and beautiful beaches. We did not need a car because there are many options for getting around , although convenient parking is available . Biking is a great option too with many bike rental places that will deliver and pick up from the cottage. We love the variety of gorgeous beaches and we enjoy the spacious outdoor shower at the end of a beach day. The cottage is immaculately clean and fresh, all linens and towels are provided and the decor has that wonderful Vineyard cottage charm and ambiance we seek when looking for a beach rental. The cottage offers privacy tucked behind very pretty gardens. The wisteria-covered front porch is a favorite place to sit and read. The owners are anxious to please and very helpful should you need something, They offer wonderful recommendations of places to see and eat, and cultural and fun activities to enjoy during our weeks there. We return often, as the variety of activities and the sheer pleasure of being on the island keep us coming back year after year. ##### Jeffrey M. This pretty and idyllic Vineyard cottage is a short stroll to Edgartown’s shops, restaurants and beaches. Located in one of Edgartown’s prettiest areas, you’ll love that this home is in a quiet spot that is close to everything. Spend your summer vacation at this interior designer’s own recently built charming cottage surrounded by gorgeous English gardens. Stroll along a country road lined with rose covered cottages and fences to downtown Edgartown - just a 7-10 minute walk. The approach to the cottage is through a garden gate with seasonal flowers all around, lovingly maintained by the owner. The queen bedroom leads to a quiet back garden. The full bath is equipped with a tub/shower and washer/dryer. There is a lovely stone gas fireplace in the living room, a two twin-bedded loft, central air, and a luxurious outdoor shower. The house comes fully equipped with linens, towels and all the kitchen items you’ll need. Cook some of the Vineyard’s fresh-caught fish in the outdoor gas grill, rinse off after a day at the beach in the luxurious outdoor shower. It doesn’t get much better than this. ##### Carol B. We've always loved it. We live in California and kept coming back every year. This idyllic cottage was perfect for my husband and me with its very comfortable queen size bed, charming beach cottage decor, central air conditioning., stone gas fireplace, washer and dryer in the cottage bathroom, a full tub/shower, and a gas grill outside. The large open main room with a comfortable seating area, eating area and kitchen area is a perfect size for an easy and relaxing vacation. This cottage is surrounded by beautiful gardens lovingly maintained by the owners. A spacious, recently-added outdoor shower is a treat after a day at the beach. The location is ideal, just a short walk to town, past pretty Vineyard houses, and near to several great beaches. The only reason we do not stay here anymore is that we fell in love with this vacation spot so much that we looked and looked and recently found and purchased our own Martha's Vineyard house! But we also miss staying at this property, as it has so many wonderful features. We return every year to visit now, to take a walk through a beautiful conservation area nearby, and see the gardens in bloom. ##### Barbara F. The description is accurate; the location is behind the owners' house (at the end of a very nice yard) which is down a dirt road from Edgartown proper - nice and quiet. It is a short walk into the downtown area of Edgartown; we only had our bikes and it was very easy to bike to beaches, shopping, etc. The kitchen is small - fine for breakfast and we did cook a couple of dinners on the hotplate and the grill outside, but you should be aware that it isn't a full kitchen. We had a lovely time - the price is fair, the location is nice. Highly recommended. ##### David S. For me and my wife, this past August was our first trip to Martha's Vineyard We were looking for a last minute getaway, and were very lucky to stay at this quaint cottage. The cottage is surrounded by beautiful gardens and has its own secluded walkway off of a private wooded road. It was very clean, well maintained and had all the amenities of home. We were a little nervous not having a vehicle on the island, but that wasn't a problem. The cottage is within walking distance to downtown Edgartown which has a ton of shops, restaurants, book stores, beaches and so much more. We rented bicycles during our stay and used them when we needed to travel longer distances. It was a pleasure meeting both Lynne and Rich, as well. They provided us with many sightseeing tips and recommendations, such as "Espresso Love" (a small coffee shop that we frequented). We highly recommend this cottage to anyone that plans on visiting the island. We look forward to coming back very soon! Damon & Stephanie P ##### Damon P. Cottage is very comfortable and includes everything you might need. We used bicycles to get around although the town was quite close for walking. Property owners were quite responsive and provided many exploring suggestions. We do travel frequently and still have many places on our list, however we definitely plan to return to this cool cottage soon. ##### Steve K. The cottage is absolute perfection. From the moment I arrived, I instantly I felt at home. The interior is beautifully decorated and one feels the love and caring that went into the selection of furniture and furnishings that all contribute to a warm homey vibe. The rooms are charming, cozy, and spacious. No detail has been overlooked. Practical worries were banished as the cottage has a comfortable queen-size bed, excellent water pressure, a full-size washer/dryer, and plentiful outlets, new and grounded, so no worries about plugging in electronics. The cottage has central heat and air conditioning along with a working gas fireplace, making it ideal for all seasons. The full bathroom has a bathtub/shower. All fixtures are modern and there is excellent lighting (with dimmers) in every room. The sun streams in through the windows on all four sides during the day. There is also a wood-enclosed, hot water outdoor shower along a flagstone path from the back door of the bedroom. The cottage was built as a year-round destination. The exterior is private, situated on beautifully landscaped grounds and in the last week of August, during my stay, the trees and flowers were in full bloom. There is a lovely front porch where I spent a lot of time, as well as large well-tended lawns surrounding the back and sides extending to the tree lines of the property. Other areas are filled with plants, flowers, and gardens. The cottage is perfect for couples looking for a romantic getaway, as well as for a single seeking a personal retreat with all the creature comforts. I was traveling solo and wanted quiet, nature and solitude, without feeling like I was in an “alone in the woods slasher film.” The peace and serenity I experienced during my stay was unparalleled. It was the perfect antidote to too much city life. The cottage is within walking distance to several natural habitats and town and one can easily get around on foot, by bike, or car. Cabs were plentiful, prompt, and inexpensive as I didn’t always want to walk to town. Lynne and Rich (gracious lovely people) checked in on me without being intrusive and had prepped the cottage immaculately in advance. I am looking forward to a return trip as I already miss the mornings spent sitting on the front porch with my coffee, reading, writing, thinking, and watching nature. ##### Francine S. We have stayed in many different types of rentals. The wisteria cottage has to be one of the best. It's very clean and decorated perfectly for a cottage. It's a stroll to town and has everything you need. The gardens are amazing. The outdoor shower is the perfect touch to end of a relaxing day. The pictures just don't do it justice. We hope to stay again next year! ##### John S. ---
