Affected but also in a way spared from annihilation which could have befallen them in the disastrous fires that roared through the area in January 2013, Bangor Wine & Oyster Shed sits above the town, overlooking Bangor Vineyard, Blackman Bay, Marion Bay and Norfolk Bay where some of Australia's best oysters are grown. Now it is a stop on the way to or from Port Arthur or a retreat after work on Friday nights when it is open in summer until 9.00pm. Award winning wines, cheese & antipasto platters and dishes of the day plus great coffee make this one of my favourite weekend call-bys. It was very tired and needed a refit. Initial impression was poor: up some narrow outside stairs, with a torn carpet, which obviously hadn't been vacuumed for many a day. Key kept jamming in lock, and was very difficult to open door. Inside the room every effort had been made by the staff, and the room was clean and tidy. However, all was dated and tired. Did not use the resturant. The receptionist was very helpful, and did agree the rooms needed refurbishment. It served us OK for one night; but what can you expect for the (cheap) price we paid?"
