Affected but also in a way spared from annihilation which could have befallen them in the disastrous fires that roared through the area in January 2013, Bangor Wine & Oyster Shed sits above the town, overlooking Bangor Vineyard, Blackman Bay, Marion Bay and Norfolk Bay where some of Australia's best oysters are grown. Now it is a stop on the way to or from Port Arthur or a retreat after work on Friday nights when it is open in summer until 9.00pm. Award winning wines, cheese & antipasto platters and dishes of the day plus great coffee make this one of my favourite weekend call-bys. Sarah at the restaurant spoke to me so rudely when we tried to book in at the restaurant at check in, I received a sigh and frustration on her end because we didn’t have a booking - we did not dine there. However, the lady at reception was really kind and warm. I was feeling unwell in the morning and they allowed us to check out 1 hour later, which was very thoughtful. Parking was easy to attain. The view was nice, but the rooms being as small as they were did not make up for it.
