Comfortable and fairly priced
Like the hotel version of your Nans house. Clean and warm, kindness within. It's a little dated, but homely for it. The bathroom blinds should be binned, and the broken mirror decorations at fire place aren't needed.. but little concern otherwise. We had a lovely time. Plenty space, good location, slept well, ate well. Offered friendly advice on local attractions (we did go to the Dino Park and boys loved it). Wouldn't hesitate to stay again and look forward to another trip in future. If you're a bit pretentious, you may not like it..if you're happy to roll with it and embrace a bit of good old fashioned value and service..fire away. We left happy.

A great place to stay
We received a 1st class welcome at the hotel. All staff were friendly and helpful. Delighted by the family room which was very spacious with classic charm. The cooked breakfast was tasty and enjoyed by all and the chef even did us a take-away brekky one morning when our plans conflicted with the food serving times. We enjoyed the reasonably priced evening meals and would give extra praise for the value and choice of the childrens menu.

Hotel run down with cracks and peeling paint and cobwebs in the corners of the walls. Bed hard and uncomfortable. Inconvenience of having to return to room before lockout as no all night reception and had to leave key with reception every time I went out. The breakfast was lovely and the staff friendly enough but this place is definitely not value for money. I am staying in a place in Yorkshire for a similar price but there is no comparison in terms of the hotel comfort and facilities. Price needs to be reduced and customers should be informed about the lockout before making a booking. Also Works needs to be available for assistance via email or whatsapp. As an international traveller I don't want to have to pay a hefty phone fee to get in touch with someone.

Thank you anonymous for your "Review". First of all I don't normally respond to any reviews but due to the adverse comments I felt on this occasion I needed to.. Since reading your story I have searched high and low for our resident spider to no avail. However, that's not to say he isn't here somewhere. Your point regarding "lockouts" is not actually giving all the facts. The times of the doors closing at weekends are 1am, Friday, 12 midnight Saturday and 11pm Sunday, which in thirteen years owning the hotel has never been a problem. We have offered a slightly later admissions when it has been for a special function such as a wedding or the likes. Many small hotels like us do not offer "Pass Keys" as a security and safety measure for ALL our guests For to offer a main door key to someone you have just met to your home is not something many people would do, and quite frankly having to pay a night porter for seven hours, seven days a week is ridiculous for a hotel with seven rooms. Our booking site does state restricted hours for Reception. Your last point on communication baffles me completely. We have Superfast Broadband on site and if you were struggling with it you should have said. If we believed that someone is not happy with their stay we would always give the option for to check out early. The majority of our customers come back to us to enjoy the hospitality, the lovely breakfasts, the superb evening meals and the overall comfort. I am however pleased that you have found a hotel in York which is better value and suited to your needs and hopefully it will help in you enjoying the rest of your holiday in the UK..

Great food, lovely people.
Nice relaxed stay with really excellent food and very friendly people. Rooms are nice, beds a little uncomfortable, and shower really needs to mould sorting out. Needs a bit of a more TLC.

A wonderful place!
We, a family of five, stayed one night passing through the area on our way our the Highlands. It’s a wonderful establishment with lovely people running it. Great food. Great for families. We were very happy with our stay.
