Nice enough
Pro's and cons: Pro's first: good location, a short drive from Luino, a good sized lakeside town. You can take ferries from Luino all round the lake, including to the Borromean islands. You'll have to spend some time aquainting yourself with the ferry timetable and a map of the lake. Nothing much goes on in Dumenza itself. There's a small supermarket that we didn't actually have to use, as we shopped out and about in the bigger towns. There is somewhere to get a coffee in the morning if you want to. The apartment itself was ok. The bedroom was good. Big comfortable bed, plenty of storage. Nice views from the front windows. The kitchen was sufficiently equipped. Cons: there are 6 flights of stairs, 3 short & 3 longer as the apartment is at the top of the building. There must be someone who lives in the apartment below, as one evening we were moving things around in the bedroom and someone started banging on the ceiling. The shower needs a new head. There was water in the bottom of the fridge, and it was iced up on the back. On close inspection, the kitchen and bath were a little grubby, and everything, apart from the bedroom, looked tired and old. I had to clean the cupboard fronts myself. (obviously this is the housekeepers responsibility and not the owners, as I don't believe the owners live locally. We only met the housekeeper, who was pleasant enough, but really she was there, and gone.) The worst thing of all, that very nearly ruined our whole stay, were the bells! If you want to sleep at all you have to close all the shutters and windows to dampen the sound. They literally ring loudly every half an hour, 24 hours a day. In fact it's more than that. Say it's midnight. So the bell rings 12 times. For some reason 1minute later, they ring 12 times again! Just in case you lost count the first time. At half past 12 they ring 12 times again with an extra higher pitched dong for the half hour. This routine NEVER STOPS. We didn't sleep the first 3 nights, as it was hot and we had the windows open. It was better with all the windows shut, but hot and stuffy. Don't forget to bring towels, tea towels, washing up liquid, toilet rolls, soap, everything really as these are not provided. I chose this property for location, price and the fact that it is self catering, as I can't eat out for health reasons. The oven is a microwave so didn't actually use that. Overall it was a pleasant experience as there's so much to do around the lake.

Escape in the mountains.
This property is in a really picturesque, quiet village surrounded by beautiful mountains. There is a huge lake 10 minutes drive away which we decided to walk to and from leading us through hills and forests. Milan is only an hour drive away and the Swiss border with it’s lakes, valleys and mountains 30-40 mins away. Loads of places around to enjoy excellent Italian food, coffee and drinks. We could not have picked a better location for our holiday. It met our needs perfectly and we found it easy to fill our week with great experiences and views.

Italian Village Life
We stayed at Casa Verdi for a week and had a super time. The apartment is clean and very comfortable, having everything we needed. There was a nice view from the lounge window and the village is delightful. The small supermarket at the end of the road had everything we needed and the staff were extremely patient and helpful. We had no problems parking. The village of Dumenza was quiet and very peaceful. We loved Luino which is about a 15 minute drive and it is well stocked with restaurants, cafes, ice-cream parlours and two 24 hour supermarkets. It is delightful to walk along the promenade at the side of the Lake in the early evening. Lake Maggiore is a wonderful holiday destination.

lovely apartment
Really lovely apartment, we stayed for 2 weeks with 2 children and our dog. Dumenza is pretty and very close to Luino (amazing market every Wednesday). Meccagno has a great beach and again, not far from Dumenza. Lots of information sent to us by the owners and we used it well - thank you! The apartment hasn't got a washing machine, but there is a launderette in Maccagno, so no problem even if you are staying with messy children. We had an amazing time, loved the area and will definitely return!

The apartment was adequate but a little tired.
The apartment in Dumenza was adequate but a little tired, it would have benefited from a lick of paint and a little more attention to detail, eg the picture hanging was atrocious, there were no tea towels, dish cloths, hair dryer, iron or ironing board, although it does state in the advertisement that tea towels and dish cloth was not included I do feel that the above mentioned equipment are essential in any holiday let, we did purchase an ironing board which we left in the apartment for the new guests, unfortunately for them we took are iron home, we also purchased wine glasses as there were only two in the apartment, that said the housekeeper was very welcoming and friendly, and Dumenza itself is a lovely little village. The information sent with the booking from the owners was very useful, with lots of tips on places to visit and things to do, we did them all and a little more. Overall we thought it was good value for money and had a wonderful holiday in the Italian Lakes and enjoyed are stay in Dumenza. With a little bit of TLC and the essential equipment this apartment could be a little gem.

Siamo stati bene. Nelle vicinanze c'è un centro sportivo ideale per fare trascorrere del tempo ai bambini e, in fase di attivazione, una colonnina fast BeCharge. Un pensiero cordiale alla signora Adriana, molto gentile ed affabile.

Periodo a Dumenza
