Nice hotel near the beach

Posted 20-Sep-2016
Staffs are courteous and helpful. Hotel is a little dated. The room was always warmer, even though we set the AC to 19C. Room is ok. The nice thing is the hotel is very near the pier/beach and surrounded by a lot of restaurants.

Good hotel, just a shame on noise

Posted 19-Sep-2016
Good hotel with location, facilities, and food/drink. Room was clean and spaceious with a good bathroom (room 440) 1 problem! (A BIG ONE) Noise from the groundfloor function room We stayed for a total of 3 nights Night one: wedding, loud noise going far past midnight. Night two: Another wedding, lous noise going far past midnight. Night Three: Party function, again loud noise. Lets say our sleep all three nights wasn't great. My wife has epilepsy and does require a good amount of sleep. We complained to reception in person and room phone. All management said "we will ask them to turn the music down" DId this happen? Music went quiet each time for no longer than 20 minutes until the function room just upped the volume back. Only say if theres no functions happening, or clear from 440 (located straight above function room) I have and will be making more complaints regarding this.

Nice Hotel with Beautiful Pier Views

Posted 06-Sep-2016
Pros: Nice rooms, good pricing, friendly staff.
Cons: Not that I spent much time watching TV, but the channel lineup could be expanded a bit.
Location: Near a train station, nearby shopping, taxi stand wasn't far away, the pier was an easy walk from the hotel
We arrived around 9:30 am after flying all night (and sleeping very little). The front desk staff was wonderful about getting all of us into rooms immediately so that we could get a nap before going out to explore Dublin, even though check-in wasn't officially until 3 pm. The rooms were nice and the bed comfortable. I had a little trouble with the lack of sleep figuring out how to get the lights to turn on (there is a slot for your key card by the door that activates the light for energy savings), but overall I think that's a fantastic feature for a hotel. The bathroom was on the small side, but not unreasonably so. Air conditioning works well, and although the hair dryer isn't what we are used to in the US (It was a unit attached to the wall and looks kind of like a vacuum), it worked well. The hotel is situated about three blocks from a train station, which made for easy access to Dublin City Center. There are a few good restaurants nearby, and the hotel has a restaurant and bar located inside it as well for convenience.

Short break spoilt by booking inefficiency

Posted 30-Aug-2016
Pros: Location,location,location!
Cons: 1-Booking efficiency and customer care.2- Room deficiencies were noted on departure...hope they've reacted. Staff in hotel were generally helpful.
Location: Ideal for a wedding in Dun Laoghaire !!...just don't let the Marine try to move you due to their inefficiency!!
Twelve hours before leaving the Scottish Borders for a wedding in Dun Laoghaire,Ireland we received a phonecall from the Marine Hotel informing us that due to "over-booking" we were to be relocated to another hotel nearer Dublin. We were given the impression that they thought that this might be more convenient! As I became increasingly angry explaining that I had booked in January for an August trip for my son's wedding at a venue five minutes walk away and that several arrangements had been made to meet other wedding guests (including elderly relatives) at the Marine, I was only then informed that the Marine would pay for the re-location. Despite this offer, as we had specifically chosen the Marine for it's proximity I insisted on them honouring our booking (and we paid "full whack"...more fool us?!). We set off the following morning not knowing where we would be staying. After a seven hour car/ferry/car journey, when we were within five miles of arriving in Dun Laoghaire we received a phonecall telling us that we could in fact stay at The Marine! A stressful situation at a heightened emotional time. I refused to pay for breakfast (regrettably, due to early morning arrangements we only had one morning's breakfast!). Given an "executive room"?! This was a dismal brown room with a backyard view, a dirty swivel seat with torn upholstery and a weak toilet flush!..not good! A poor way to treat Expedia customers who had planned and prepared well in advance for a family wedding.
