Unfortunately our stay was not for pleasure. My mother was having major surgery at UAB & this hotel was so convenient with the crosswalk to the hospital. It's a bit pricey but was a very nice & really clean hotel which we really appreciated. I would highly recommend this hotel
While the rooms in the hotel are a bit older, it is clean and well maintained. And the shower is pretty unique, in a good way. The walls are thin, and can get loud if you are facing the alley. No vending machines, but there is a kiosk at the front desk (to compare: $2.50 for a bottle of water).
Complimentary breakfast is offered every morning, as well as a free shuttle to either the airport or anywhere on the UAB campus. Just give the front desk a call 30 minutes ahead of time to make sure the shuttle is available for the time you want to go. And when you want to be picked up, give them a call and let them know where you are. I had to wait for over 30 minutes for the shuttle, but I am sure they are quite busy as most people take advantage of the shuttle. Don't forget to tip :)
The hotel houses some families that have loved ones at the children's museum, and the hotel is very accommodating.
Additionally, this hotel is in walkable distance to UAB, restaurants, and the Blazer Express (bus, 50 cents/ride). And there are many places in the area that deliver. Safe area, located on the 'southside' of Birmingham.
Staff was amazing. My seven year old daughter asked for a top floor room at check-in, front desk treated her like an adult and granted her request along with a warm cookie. Nicest female staff member delivered our preordered room service perfectly on time and it was delicious. She went above and beyond to make my child feel special. The staff at this hotel honestly made our trip wonderful.
When I arrived at Hassinger Daniels Mansion Bed and Breakfast (I was given a free upgrade to the Camelot room there), I was greeted at the door by Ms. Shelia. She gave me a tour of the ground floor and my room. She had freshly baked pecan tarts that were a wonderful treat after a long day. She encouraged me to wander around the mansion and take a look. I was amazed at the attention to detail. The stained glass windows throughout the mansion were absolutely beautiful. I slept like a baby in my quiet room at the top of the stairs. It felt like visiting a friend and having them extend the hospitality of their home. I much preferred the comfort of Hassinger Daniels Bed and Breakfast over any hotel in which I've stayed. The location is convenient to the downtown Birmingham area. I attended a class at The Club in Birmingham only 2 miles from the bed and breakfast. I strongly encourage anyone looking for somewhere to stay either for business or pleasure to stay at the Hassinger Daniels Bed and Breakfast with Mr. Ira and Ms. Shelia.

I was very pleased with the customer service. The bed was comfortable and the bath was spotless. Most importantly to me is that the parking area was very well lit and patrolled by staff all night. At this price point, on the north side of Birmingham, safety was my primary concern. I will definitely stay there again when budget is an issue, as it often is. There is easy access to I65 and it's close to the BJCC without the traffic. Short taxi ride to lots of clubs/bars/restaurants, some of the best in the south.
