"DO NOT BOOK UNLESS YOU ARE GERMAN WITH A GERMAN CREDIT CARD. Worst experience I have ever had on ebookers.. I booked a double room w/breakfast.... The credit card charge was not via ebookers but it was supposed to be charged by the property. They sent an auto-generated email to say they were going to charge my Visa. They then emailed me to say there was a problem charging my card. They then called me to say that they do not have breakfast available and that I should cancel...

"Great hotel very clean, spacious rooms, comfortable bed. Friendly stuff. Good food, tasty but Menu is short. Unfortunately nobody from staff speak english , even on the reception. No english menu. Therme which was included to the room price, is open till 20:30, at least that what was written, however I have tried to go at 19:30, and the door to Therme was closed. As they are claiming this is a four star hotel, they shall put more efforts for international customers."

Romantischer Winkel RoLigio & Wellness Resort

10/10 Excellent

"We had a great time staying for 2 nights in September. The hotel staff are very welcoming and nice, the food was great and fresh. We were not able to book a spa massage since they were full, next time it’s best to order a massage in advance to preserve a spot."

Nordhäuser Fürstenhof

10/10 Excellent

"We stayed in one of their tiny houses. It was very clean and nicely decorated. There was a sturdy version of a double-bed bunkbed style, a nice bathroom, a kitchen with a tiny dishwasher, a dining room/sitting area. Plus there was a lovely furnished patio area with each tiny house. There was an air conditioner (did not get it to work), but there were also automated loft windows which were fantastic at cooling down the place. Along the beautifully landscaped path to the tiny houses there was a grass area to air-out the dog and a small playground for small children. The hotel breakfast was amazing with various pâtés, fish, bacon, eggs, yogurt and fresh fruit and fresh bread. It was staffed by an amazing group of ladies. The restaurant/bar was pretty and relaxing. Well done!"

Lissy's Alte Schmiede

8/10 Good

"Værelser og antal senge var ikke helt som beskrevet. Den ene seng stod i mellemgangen så min søn fik ikke et værelse for sig selv som var planen. Stedet er delt op i mærkelige niveauer i forhold til at du går op af en trappe til værelser og stue men du skal gå lidt ned af en anden trappe for at komme til det ene værelse og lidt mere op for at komme til stuen. Alt i alt så fungerede det fint nok"

4-sided farm in the middle of Germany in the southern Harz

10/10 Excellent

"Der perfekte Platz für eine Gruppe um eine tolle gemeinsame Zeit miteinander zu verbringen. Große Küche und ein großer quadratischer Tisch um gemeinsam zu essen oder Spiele zu spielen.Draußen locken eine Tischtennis Platte und viele Sitzgelegenheiten zum verweilen ein.Das Haus ist nicht neu, aber genau das macht den Charme und Charakter aus.Kann man sehr empfehlen."

Frequently asked questions

What is the best area to stay in Dietenborn?

The best area to stay in Dietenborn is the historic Old Town, particularly around Marktplatz.

This central area is the heart of Dietenborn, characterised by its cobblestone streets and well-preserved mediaeval architecture. Marktplatz, the main square, is surrounded by historic buildings, including the Rathaus (Town Hall) and the Stadtkirche St. Georg. Many of the town's traditional guesthouses and restaurants are located within a short walk of this square, offering a genuine taste of local life.

Couples looking for a romantic getaway will find the Old Town particularly appealing. The quaint streets are great for leisurely strolls, and there are numerous cosy cafes and restaurants where you can enjoy traditional Thuringian cuisine. Its central location also means easy access to local attractions like the Dietenborn Castle ruins, which offer lovely views over the town.

For visitors who appreciate convenience and a peaceful setting, the area just outside the Old Town walls, particularly along Hauptstrasse, offers modern hotels with easy access to parking.

When is the best time to go to Dietenborn?

The best time to visit Dietenborn is during the late spring (May to early June) and early autumn (September to early October) when the weather is mild and the natural surroundings are at their most appealing.

During late spring, the Thuringian countryside around Dietenborn bursts into bloom. The temperatures are pleasant for outdoor activities like hiking and cycling through the Hainich National Park, a UNESCO World Heritage site known for its ancient beech forests. This period also sees fewer crowds than the peak summer months, allowing for a more peaceful experience.

Early autumn offers similarly comfortable temperatures, with the added beauty of the changing foliage. The forests display a stunning array of colours, making it an excellent time for scenic drives and walks. Local harvest festivals might also be taking place, providing a chance to experience regional traditions and cuisine.

While summer (July and August) is also popular, it can be warmer and busier.
