![Vézelay Abbey or Abbaye Sainte-Marie-Madeleine de Vézelay is a Benedictine and Cluniac monastery in Vézelay in the Yonne department in northern Burgundy, France. The Benedictine abbey church, now the Basilica of Sainte-Marie-Madeleine, with its complicated program of imagery in sculpted capitals and portals, is one of the outstanding masterpieces of Burgundian Romanesque art and architecture. Sacked by the Huguenots in 1569, the building suffered neglect in the 17th and the 18th centuries and some further damage during the period of the French Revolution.

"It didn’t say anywhere that this apartment is part of an old age home. The pictures of the communal spaces for the property are for the use of the care home residents. All of the property facilities are clearly for elderly residents. The shower room is designed for wheelchair users. I’d understand if the property was advertised as being designed for disabled people, but it is just because it is part of a care home. They are clearly just renting out rooms they’ve been unable to sell to elderly residents. Most of the things in the room had been bought from Amazon Basics, so you have an idea of the level of investment and care going into the property. The apartment was filled with bugs crawling all over the walls and windows and we couldn’t wait to leave. Not exactly an apartment, and certainly somewhere you’d want to spend as little time as possible."

"We had a very enjoyable stay at the Ibis Nevers. So close to the centre of the town, walkable and convenient. Parking was private and off road. Although the room was small and not soacious it was still comfortable and aircon was part of the room. Breakfast was lovely. All in all a lovely stay."
