Ο Μύθος Σελίνης και Ενδυμίωνα


Στην αρχαότητα λόγω του μύθου ονόμασαν το βουνό "Ασέληνον Όρος". Ακόμα και σήμερα, η Δυτική πλευρά της Γκιώνας, κατακρημνίζεται στην μεγαλύτερη ορθοπλαγιά των Βαλκανίων, έναν κάθετο βράχο 1200 μέτρων.

Ο Ενδυμίων ήταν ένας απλός βοσκός που είχε όμως απαράμιλλη ομορφιά. Η Σελήνη τον είδε κάποτε σε μία σπηλιά του βουνού και τον ερωτεύτηκε. Όμως ο Ενδυμίωνας ήταν άνθρωπος και επομένως κάποτε θα γερνούσε και θα πέθαινε. Η Σελήνη, καθώς δεν μπορούσε να αντέξει στη σκέψη αυτή, προσέτρεξε στο πατέρα της τον Δία, ζητώντας του να κάνει τον Ενδυμίωνα αθάνατο. Ο Δίας, αδύναμος να ικανοποιήσει μια τέτοια επιθυμία αλλά και λυπούμενος την ερωτευμένη Σελήνη, εξασφάλισε την αιώνια νεότητα του Ενδυμίωνα κάνοντάς τον να κοιμάται παντοτινά. Ο Δίας όμως του έδωσε το προνόμιο να μένει αγέραστος και αθάνατος, μόνον όσο κοιμάται.

Με αυτό τον τρόπο, ο Ενδυμίωνας θα ζούσε μέσα στον ύπνο του για πάντα και η ερωτευμένη Σελήνη θα μπορούσε να ζεί τον έρωτά της κάθε νύχτα, μέχρι το χάραμα.

Όπως είπε κάποτε και ένας γέρος, κάτοικος των αντικριστών Βαρδουσίων "από πούσαι πδί μ; "από τη Συκιά παππού". "απ τη Σκιά πτη λούζ ο ήλιος;"(ΑΣΕΛΗΝΟΝ).
