We had a brilliant stay the hotel was beautiful, our room was clean and well equipped, the staff were kind and helpful. We swam had a sauna and jacuzzi after dinner we walked on the beach. Breakfast was perfect with linen tablecloths a sea view and plenty of freshly cooked food, cereal and fruit. I was really pleased with the whole experience

Good central hotel

Posted 01-Jan-2016
Short break to visit family so small room was not problematical as we were out and about. Although room was good value it was tired in places and had pet hair in the carpets but room service vacuumed when asked. The barking dog in the room across from us when the occupants left it for breakfast was annoying but the good and tasty breakfast was great. Pleasant staff everywhere too.

Proper Victorian Hotel and ideal location

Posted 15-Dec-2015
Pros: The character of the hotel was excellent and the location ideal
Cons: Very much in need of a complete refit, carpets worn (threadbare in many places),bathrooms need updating cracks in bath and sinks, furniture bit drab
Location: Idea location, beach only a few minutes walk, right in the town center, parking £5 per day, but may be difficult to get a space in the summer months
stayed for two nights, breakfast was self service, full english, continental, cereals etc. We didnt eat in the hotel in the evenings. Swimming pool area needs a bi of an uplift. Wi-Fi only available in main lounge area of hotel, not in rooms. The hotel is in need of some needed TLC as very drab in places and worn carpets. But very clean and despite our scores we enjoyed our stay.

Grand Old Hotel with a Sea View

Posted 08-Dec-2015
Pros: In the off season, the hotel is well priced, and the standard of the staff and amenities does not waver from the highs you'd expect in summer.
Cons: The wi-fi did not really reach up to either of the rooms I was in, but this wasn't a bother as it forced me to see/se more of the hotel.
Location: Very close to the train station and at one end of the town, the usual beach and coastal attractions are only a short walk away.
Very pleasant stay. The staff were very helpful and upgraded me when it transpired my first room was under siege from the all night televisual habits of the deaf lady next door. Spacious and comfortable communal areas and a charming gym and pool, the latter kidney shaped with accompanying dolphin mosaic for children or the nervous of water. As the hotel is of a Victorian design and sits perched on a rocky outcrop I spent most of my stay imagining I was in a Wes Anderson film about lone travellers at an off season hotel, but set in Newquay. Consequently my visit felt very dramatic and symmetrical, and my fellow guests potential art thieves or murdererous brothers or marine biologists with dad issues. At one point I feared having my head held under in the pool by Willem Dafoe, but this fantasy is entirely my fault and not a reflection on the professionalism of the hotel or its staff, thus I survived to write the review.
